When I was growing up the late 1960s/1970s, we had a clothesline in the backyard. It was an economical way to dry clothes (free!) after they were washed in the washing machine. But today you rarely see them. Why is that? Are they consider low class? Or just too much work? (It's a lot easier to just throw the clothes in a dryer.)

I don't think so, Tim.

Dude I used a washboard when I visited my dad in Mexico. Hard work, but no, people got smart devices and this thing was invented called a dryer. It drys clothes with MAGIC.

But clothes drying on a line.....they always come out smelling better for some reason.

Yeah we thought dryers would solve all our problems only to realise after we got it, that too many clothes dont let u put them in dryer or they get ruined and shrink n shit.

Most underwear and pyjamas are fine but most decent clothes you wear to go outside, cant be put in the dryer. So yeah, still need to hang clothes to dry.

Damn, you must be old as heck if you grew up in the 60s & 70s.

But you did get to experience a world where people didn't have to worry about HIV/AIDS so were more open sexually so you're definitely luckier than us younger people nowadays.

I have one. Never used it but my dryer is currently unusable at the moment. Unfortunately the weather sucks.

look, boomers deserve criticism for some stuff for sure, but returning to the use of clotheslines is a smart and economical and green choice

Hm...ya know, we all had clothes lines when I was a kid but I forgot about their existence.
They clearly phased out at some point.

There used to be one where I live. I never used it but the girl who lived next to me did. Then when the new landlord bought the place, he got rid of it.
