Not true
Portions of Republican voters have somehow been convinced to vote against their best interests. Poor Republicans are a very real thing. Also somehow being convinced of boogeymen that dont actually effect them or simply aren't real and voting to stop them is a thing too.

Also, voting for things purely because they effect you isn't bad. If I vote in favor of a school levy because better education has long term effects of having a safer neighborhood, increased property value, etc it's not in anyway terrible. If I want universal healthcare simply because it helps me on a personal level, it's still a positive thing.

Poor republicans generally operate on the idea that the "others" are interfering with people like them and that capitulating to the others is the source of everyone's problems. They're still acting selfish at the end of the day, they aren't allowing themselves to be weaponized for some sort of (ig)noble reason. They just think that if a republican is elected president then the factories are going to come back, or mass Mexican exile will open up new jobs, or some other hokum will come about that will correct the ship for them in some way.

I mean, you don't need to look any further than Reaganomics. Republicans couldn't get away with flat out tossing out massive amounts of corporate regulation and lowering taxes for rich people down in the basement so a scheme was concocted to present it as centrally beneficial to the worker at the end of the day.
