The 360 did alright in Japan because they actually bothered to get games published for it Japanese people want to play. They didn't even try for the One so it failed here. The XBox failed in Japan because it wasn't Japanese really misses the primary reasons it didn't succeed. Try making some Chinese friends and finding out their opinions on stuff. I remember being shocked my first year at undergraduate when my Chinese roommate and his friends got outraged when I suggested Taiwan was a country. This was over a decade ago, but I had no idea it was even controversial. Now that I go to China regularly and have a Chinese girlfriend and best friend I get exposed to the nationalist opinions a lot. That's only true for a minority of people who don't agree with the government, like my girlfriend for example, but her entire family loves the government and would disown her if they knew she intended to become a Japanese citizen. Dinners with them in China are basically constant reminders that Japan is inferior to China, America is bad and can't accuse China of anything, and the newest edition is that Hong Kongers are bad and we hope the PLA crushes them. It's very frustrating not being able to state your own opinion, but the constant nationalism coming from family and friends in China over WeChat reminds you of the situation.
