Ever since the Switch came out, sandwiched between the releases of the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X (both of which were meant as sort-of mid generation reboots), pretty much every time I want to play a game, it's on the Switch. And this is especially true for multiplatform games, where surprisingly you trade very little in the way of visual fidelity for portability and an OS that doesn't feel like it's Windows Vista running on a 1999 Celeron.

There's a very weird sense of immediacy and reassurance that comes from a console that can undock into a handheld without any fuss. And considering this generation got so inundated with microtransactions, loot boxes, etc, it's refreshing to have a system that de-emphasizes chopped up monetization.

And, this may sound silly, but the very fact that the Switch operates like the solid state system that it is gives it, somewhat ironically, a feeling of being a generation ahead of the competition, despite having worse visuals. The PS4, but more specifically the Xbox One, just feel so damn clunky to use. They do a lot, but feel bloated, slow, and unnecessarily complicated for devices designed to play games. when I pick up my Xbox controller, I expect to spend at least a few minutes getting to the game, as opposed to the Switch, which goes from sleep mode to gameplay within seconds.

Nintendo often jumps to the front of the pack when they're not fucking around with exploring new markets. Except for online, of course, which is their Achilles heel.

Lol

Between the Switch and my Xbox One X I always tend to get multiplatform games on the latter

People complaining about laggy OSs need to take it up with Sony too, the Xbox OS lets me get to anything Ive pinned in about 3 button presses and thats quite nice

And very little in the way of visual fidelity? Some multiplatform games look like mush on the Switch when docked and run at 30 FPS

The Switch is a great exclusives machine and not much else

Agreed, TC

The only thing I ever really choose over my Switch is my PC. I'll almost always pick the switch version of a game over the ps4/xb1 version

Are you not using stand-by mode on the Xbox One?
