Decently strong feelings on all 3 matches today, mostly because I really like all 3 songs I'm voting for. Lullaby feels like the weakest song so far from that Touhou11,,, - Vocals ) is - Vocals ) not my style, and.... well Sweets Palace is pretty good, but I like Freezing Space more

Both of the WB tracks are 10/10 and have been very impactful VGM for me. Golden slaughterer is my favorite of all the zts works, and really fit well in the Umineko scenes where big shit was going down and everyone was getting killed in all of the chaos. Nothing really quite does dark trance like the Umineko soundtrack, with the great works of zts and -45. Some of my favorite Touhou pieces are actually the slower more emotional/folk style tracks, like LoDH (see also World of Empty Dreams, Mystic Oriental Dream ~ Ancient Temple, Rural Makai City Esoteria). This stage in particular always had the coolest aesthetic in the series I've felt. Honestly, this is the best match of the contest.

Umemoto is nice, but I'm not really getting that much of an Umemoto vibe from it. Amusement Park I actually like quite a bit more now than I did when I first heard it.

Kinda like the jazziness in Freezing Space, not too fond of the sound production in Sweets Palace.

gs is such a cool song, epic zts is always strong to me. perhaps to an embarrassing degree, that i still haven't moved on from it like the rest of the board. idunno. ohwell. it's a good mood. gs never stood out enough to me to be my favourite but on its own it's really strong. though they all are. but still. i don't think i've ever done a full ranking of them even though i've listened to all of them together a bajillion times i should do that maybe. anywya i tend to be pretty harsh on LotDH because most of its appeal comes from something that is entirely too distinguishable separately from Touhou to ever attribute to it. And well, knowing that, it underwhelms me as an arrangement, because I'd rather hear a full-blown touhou take on it, and it's too low energy to be that. it's not that bad really but yeah it has its work cut out for it to engage me in a positive sense because of that

before anyone accidentally starts thinking i have valid opinions i guess i'll give my full thoughts on match 2. i like umemoto :) i also like amusement park :) they are (surprisingly) good :) (even though i've already heard them too many times)

freezing space.................. is cool. i'm sorry folks. having said that, I'm really feeling sweets palace today............ .......i guess you could say it hit the sweet spot. i should probably stop, these puns are hurting me more than the loss of ougon which goldenslaughterer had to remind me of. curse you zts

Umineko no Naku Koro ni - goldenslaughterer: 10. Umineko has a lot of gentle, soothing songs like Hope. It also has songs like goldenslaughterer. goldenslaughterer is one of the most evil songs I've heard. Nothing quite tops it from the soundtrack (though the executioner comes close). It's a song of total desperation, the idea that a fate worse than death is coming for you and everyone you love, and it encapsulates that so perfectly. This isn't the song you play when shit hits the fan. This is the song you play when shit rains from the sky.

Touhou 11: Subterranean Animism - Lullaby of Deserted Hell: 5. Kind of uninteresting to me. The main organ instrument is somewhat grating. I like the section right before the loop, when it gets a little more "acoustic," and that's enough to bump it up a few points.

VA-11 HALL-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action - Umemoto: 5. I can't get into anything from this soundtrack and this song is no exception.

NieR: Automata - Amusement Park (Dynamic - Vocals): 2.5. I'm a little unclear on why this retired from VGMC. I don't think it's particularly good. It feels sloppy (in a bad way). There are certainly more engaging (to me at least) Automata songs.

Bloody Roar 3 - Freezing Space: 6.5. Compelling song, but it never quite makes the leap into the upper tier for me.

Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? - Sweets Palace: 6.5. Good melody. The instruments are a little too loud in true Tenpei Sato fashion, but the melody makes up for it.

goldenslaughterer playing was basically the thing that made me fall in love with Umineko. I'd never heard anything like it before, and it was so incredibly effective at making you feel the despair (while also being hella awesome). Later zts songs surpassed it, but it's still amazing. Lullaby is better than the average Touhou, but not great.

Umemoto's already, but no match for VGMC legend Amusement Park.

Freezing Space is pretty okay. Not amazing, but I like it a mild amount. Sweets Palace doesn't have the annoying Disgaea instrument but still manages to have the annoying Disgaea sound. Ugh.

Anyways idk what everyone sees in goldenslaughterer, it's decent but eh not a very high pick feeling song, the Touhou song is not my favourite Touhou song by any means but it does still have some of the good parts about Touhou stuff while also being kinda different in a way.. Anyways this was not a hard match at all for me but oh well I guess this is where im not b8

MATCH 1

Funny enough, goldenslaughterer is probably my least favorite zts song in Umineko, but it's still really good to the point that it's the best song of the day without a doubt. I definitely prefer its Chiru counterpart, resurrected replayer, but like I said, I still really like goldenslaughterer. The trance buildup is cool and all, but the song really starts to get good for me once the strings hit at 1:12. The entire rest of the song from there on is just incredible. I just think it has a lot of things that I love about Umineko's soundtrack as a whole that I can't put into words too well. FL81 and rwlh described the dark and grim atmosphere of this song much better than I could have, so I'll pretty much second their comments on that and say that they're great at describing an aspect of this song that I think it does a great job at utilizing.

Really thankful that it rolled Lullaby of a Deserted Hell because I'd have a heart attack trying to decide between goldenslaughterer and Hartmann's Youkai Girl if it rolled that. I do actually like Lullaby of a Deserted Hell a lot, though. Interestingly enough, while I'm normally fine with the ZUNpets, I definitely prefer the parts of this song that don't have them. Maybe this is part of why some people were mentioning that this song is a good song for people who tend to not like Touhou music? Since I think they're used more sparingly than most Touhou songs, especially ones from the earlier Windows games. I think it's a pretty calming song with a nice melody, but I just love goldenslaughterer too much to vote for it here.

MATCH 2

Umemoto's not bad, but not particularly impressive either. Pretty inoffensive to me and easy to listen to, but it doesn't really stand out in any way.

Amusement Park isn't my preferred Nier Automata song, but I still like it quite a bit. I can still picture the machines throwing confetti in the air while this song plays in the background. Pretty easy match here, but my vote could've been different against a song like Every Day is Night.

MATCH 3

Don't really care much for Freezing Space except for that piano bit towards the end. That part's pretty neat, but the rest of it is fairly average.

Sweets Palace is definitely more my style. I wouldn't say that epic orchestra-esque sound is necessarily my thing, but in a song like this, it works out just fine.
