About 2010 or so. Theres some surprising good songs from new rappers since. And then theres old school rappers still in it. Though that seems to be decreasing less. Or like Eminem other than a handful of songs hasnt been near as good as he was in the past.

The best are the newer artists that took the places of older rappers that fell out their prime. Like JID, Big Krit, Boogie, Earthgang, Schoolboy Q etc.

Rap today is just as diverse as it ever was. Which means if turn on the radio a lot of stuff will sound the same, but if you bother to do some digging (easier now than ever before!) there's lots of really great creative music out there

In my opinion? There are two key points thst separate good rap from bad rap:

1. Melodic and/or harmonic content. Drums and bass are cool and all but I like it to at least have some sort of texture. And a melodic chorus is nice, but not mandatory.

2. Content. When your song is about hookers, violence and/or your own ego I don't have any desire to listen to it.

Now, that may seem like painting with a broad brush but I actually do like quite a bit of rap because it satisfies both of those requirements.

That's about how I see it, though I'm more forgiving of such content if it's delivered in a creative way

Point number 2 is something that always irks me when people say. That same content is discussed in rock, metal, punk, pop, big band, etc music genres, but people only care when it's hip hop. I'm not criticizing you, it's just something I see a lot and it's always presented as if it's exclusive to hop hop.

It's getting pretty hard in the Rock/hard rock area. I mean there is just a lot less people making that type of music now a days and we are getting shit like Greta Van Fleet. Which is just a knock off of Van Halen... I mean it's one thing to by inspired by. It's a total other thing to steal everything from one band. Or we get trash like Five Finger Death Punch covering all the hits of the 90s... Fuck off. Highly Suspect and The pretty reckless are good, but they haven't come out with anything lately.

One modern hard rock band I can dig for some reason is starset. Their new album is catchy.

Also I'll add everything Zach Hill has been imvolved with, definitely too weird to be considered hard rock but it's some of the heaviest, most intense stuff one can find.

The problem is that almost every hard rock band now either goes for the stripped down, tight sound like Queens of the stone age & Royal Blood or they have that generic post grunge sound like Alter Bridge. Its gotten very boring
