Color-Carrying Winds is one of the oddball cases where it's a sound I love a whole frickin lot but it just doesn't do much for me at all; it misses on the brilliance that a lot of its fellow songs both from Ar nosurge and from earlier games exude and thus its just "another cool song." Vertigo, on the other hand, is absolutely EXPLODING with energy and creativity and just cool fuckin sounds like right off the bat it hits you with that absolutely dirty guitar loop at 0:06 that persists quietly in the back as all of these layer add on over top and the lead makes you feel like you are RUNNING RUNNING and then suddenly 1:07 youre starting to float??? and then 1:33 you are just FLYING THROUGH THE CLOUDS at high speeds!! this song is so uplifting in so many strange ways that contradict the instruments used and augh god it's so good i love bass is scape daddy namiki thank you

Maybe I'm a Lion could be very very very good but instead it feels like half a song and that makes me really sad because of how much I like the rest of FF8!! Stadium is also not even close to a favorite on AGHR but it's definitely the stronger song here to me

snubs is two pretty good songs, one from a soundtrack i kinda like and one from a soundtrack i kinda dont like. and i'm voting for the latter oops!!

Ar nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star - Color-Carrying Wind - I love the instrumentation here... the mallet instruments, the plucked strings, the choir, the chime-like things.... With vertigo, The beat really drags things down for me, and then when it finally changes to those descending harmonies I get sick of that, too. Not my cup of tea.

Final Fantasy VIII - Maybe I'm a Lion Stadium's main idea is really cool, and when things get added on they are pretty good. However, hearing the same thing over and over becomes a drag. Maybe I'm a Lion is a mixed bag. (hey that rhymed!) I absolutely LOVE the contrary motions starting at 1:01 as well as the twisty fast runs that lead into it. There are stretches where it's pretty boring, though. It also kind of suffers from "bare bones" instrumentation like many other PS1 battle themes in the series. Still, I wouldn't mind if all seven reps were battle themes! We could have replaced The Landing with Premonition, Liberi Fatali with Don't Be Afraid, and Eyes on me with The Legendary Beast! (but seriously, putting Eyes on Me even as alt was a big mistake) FFVIII has easily the best set of battle themes in the series.

Two very good soundtracks in the first match, but I feel these are both comparitively weak picks from their setlists. Still a good match.

Also a good second match, but Maybe I'm a Lion is my favorite FF8 track after The Extreme.

Snubs is very much lopsided, also Back Home sounds like the music in RuneScape either where you're training Hunter or doing the Easter event.

Ar nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star - Color-Carrying Wind: 5. About as stereotypical a Gust song as you can possibly get. Does nothing to distinguish itself from the loads of other Gust songs I've heard.

DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu Black Label - Vertigo (Stage5): 6.5. I like how they had to lower the volume in this upload because it's so damn loud on the soundtrack.

CCW probably my least favorite Ar nosurge track so far ;_;. Vertigo's pretty good though!

No Alexander O Smith in Maybe I'm a Lion makes me sad, but the song is still great. FFVIII has some excellent battle themes. Not a fan of Stadium.

I haven't liked any of the Plok tracks so far, but this one is pretty solid! It's up against one of the better HK tracks too though, so I don't think it can win.

I actually have liked the Plok soundtrack quite a bit overall. Incidentally it also reminds me of Banjo Kazooie (which unlike with most people here, is a soundtrack I like a lot), except with cooler rhythms but not as cool instrumentation and overall personality, if that makes sense. In any case it's a lot of fun though, and this is probably my favorite of the ones I've heard. Unfortunately it ended up against my #2(?) favorite song from a soundtrack I nominated so RIP.

MATCH 1

Oh god why. Why does this matchup have to happen? I really really don't want to to vote against the Ar nosurge song here, but I have to. Color-Carrying Wind is unfortunately to me the weakest song in the 1-6 slots. I do like it quite a bit, though. The marimba or whatever instrument that is gives a playful feel to the song. I feel like the melody falls flat a bit for me at times, like 0:11-0:21. Other parts like 1:53-2:08 are really good, though! I think in general, the parts where the violin is prominent are the best ones in this song.

Can't really explain why I like Vertigo as much as I do, it just has a fun melody to it I guess. Especially the part starting at 1:20. I really like that part. I think Color-Carrying Wind is the only song in the Ar nosurge setlist that I'd vote against in this matchup. I'd 100% vote XIO_PROCEED and EXPAJA I'd probably vote for too. The 1-3 slots would be an extremely easy vote for the Ar nosurge song as well, if they had the chance of being rolled in this match. I say I have to vote for Vertigo here, but I really don't want to see Color-Carrying Wind lose here since I want Ar nosurge to go far. Despite voting against Color-Carrying Wind, I feel like I'll be sadder if it does lose here haha. At least there's still losers bracket, though, if it does.
