I really like Ghost. I'm hoping for a Normal/Ghost type someday, so it can be immune to itself.

Your poll is all over the place, are those supposed to be dual typings or you just didnt have enough options to separate them out?

Steel and dragon are the best types IMO. Resistances are crazy.

But I'd probably go with Dark as my favorite type.

It used to be dragon, but now fairy is a thing.

idk, you could probably find the answer by looking at what players use in championships. Tried to google for a list, but I keep getting stuff related to Go.

Back in gen 1, normal and psychic were the best of the best. Water has remained strong over the years. Dark has been useful. Dragon was frequently dominant. Fairy has been prominent, but mostly for Xerneas who appears on a *lot* of tournament-level teams.

It's a tough question, too, because there are other aspects to consider. Many Pokemon types have crap filler Pokemon so while water has great high-end Pokemon, it also has some of the worse Pokemon. Dragon, by contrast, is generally just strong Pokemon.

Ground. They're almost all slow, for good reason - look at how broken Excadrill was in Gen 5, with a steel subtype, only being "slightly" slow. Look at Garchomp's dominance. Look at Dugtrio being a speedy boy with an amazing ability.

Look at Dugtrio being a speedy boy with an amazing ability - I love them anyway, and in Gen 6 I was going to represent a forum game of being a Ground gym leader with odd nonsense such as Stunfisk, who somehow became one of my top 10 favorite Pogeys despite being actually ridiculous.

With the exception of Groudon, usually whenever a ground type succeeds it seems to be more from their second type. Garchomp is one of my favorite Pokemon, but it's more his dragon-half that makes the difference. Excadrill I love as well, but that's more his steel. And ground tends to be slow because it's frequently paired with rock, which is a slow type. When you have ground by itself, that changes. Dugtrio was a very fast Pokemon and he was there from the beginning.

Yeah, I was phoneposting, and I meant to also say "but Dugtrio's paper-thin defensively out of necessity, Arena Trap is just THAT GOOD."

Reminder that at one point Ground was such a good subtype that people would include off-the-wall offensive grass types just to counter Swampert's existence, for instance.

It's a pity the Flying types are all so cool too, because the only Ground/Flying lines are ugly as sin. Screw the elemental genies, and screw Gliscor - because who, after all, would try to run a defensive poke with a 4x weak to Ice, one of the most common attacking types to cover the necessity of Dragons existing?

The best attacking type for coverage is fighting? Or is it rock?

And then I know steel is the best defensive type by far.

Depends on what you mean. Dragon and ghost have the highest number of neutral match-ups since both are resisted by just one thing and completely resisted by another. Granted, the thing that's immune to dragon (ie, fairy) is also SE vs fairy whereas ghost is immune to normal). And, amusingly enough, both dragon and ghost are SE vs their own type, which is kinda rare.

Otherwise ground and fighting are SE vs 5 types, which is the largest number of types. However, it's worth noting that each has one type that's immune to its damage and fighting is resisted by more types. Both are notable for being SE vs the top defensive types (which, in gen 1, was rock, and then gen 2 onward has been steel).

Granted, you could always get into relevant coverage, since not all types are equally present or useful.
