From comments I've seen, they had little to no consumables and obviously terrible gear. About half the raid died halfway through the fight. And Ragnaros died in oneshot. Back when WOW was new, people would keep how to make gold and how to level up efficiently to them self. There was also people selling guide books on how to level and make gold. So many people being dedicated enough to grind to 60 in like 5 days and get attuned is the surprising part.
