And why should legal sex match assigned sex at birth rather than gender identity?

For medical as well as legal purposes. The same reason that most states refuse to alter a birth certificate to reflect a name change.

What medical purposes? Assigned sex at birth shouldn't change in the medical records. And what legal purposes?

I like how all the posters pretending to be outraged about this can't actually explain how it is detrimental. Physicians do not access people's birth certificates when treating them.

I think I misread your previous question

That being said what exactly is the point of having a legal sex if it doesn't match your biological sex? Seems kind of counter-intuitive since the government has no reason to keep records about your personal preferences, and it would be a borderline surveillance state if they did.

There's no shortage of cis people who have issues with trans people while making zero attempts to understand trans care or what this improvement entails.

Birth certificates are legal documents and mismatched ones can lead to a lot of discrimination as well as being denied other legal documents like passports.

It isn't even like your blood type is listed on your drivers license, at least not in America. Bringing up medical issues that this might cause is fucking vile because guess what? Trans people already do get improper medical care because of discrimination and lack of training to actually know how to handle trans health needs.

Good question!! What's the point of legal sex in the first place?

Imagine having such an outdated understanding of science that you unironically use the term "biological sex". Good luck finding it in an actual textbook.

It makes perfect sense to use the term "biological sex" in a conversation where you want to differentiate it with "legal sex"

Okay so tell me. When you were born or still gestating, did the doctor get a blood test to phenotype and genotype you to determine your chromosomes? Or did they just look down, see a penis, and go "male"?

My line of thinking was that its possible to have an unconscious patient receive treatment not that they would lie to their doctor. I know I wouldnt.

Being involved in a trauma and having a report of male, then doing an ex lap and finding a uterus is confusing and potentially disorienting to say the least, especially if the EMR is out of date and lists sex as male rather than the gender as man.

Right. Why go to medical school when people can just decide for themselves? The left has been saying for years that sex and gender are different things. Okay, fine. But sex is medically relevant in certain situations.

More like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revisionist_history

Genderless figures, gods that punished people by swapping bodies, eunuchs, and women dressing as men to get into the military aren't evidence of transsexualism in history.

I'm not saying there were no trans people in history, but desperately padding history with them by redefining everything that isn't blatantly hetero or homosexual as trans reeks of trying to redefine history for your own purposes.

Half the things mentioned in that list, if you go to their individual wikipedia pages, make no mention of any relation to transsexualism. Just going from the first paragraph, the Sumerian Gala were genderless, and the Roman galli were eunuchs, and the Indian Hijras were eunuchs who also took hermaphrodites into their ranks.

genderless, agender, and nongender conforming. AKA their own categories. Not transgender.

Transgender people have a gender identity or gender expression that differs from their assigned sex.[1][2][3] Some transgender people who desire medical assistance to transitionfrom one sex to another identify as transsexual.[4][5] Transgender often shortened as trans is also an umbrella term: in addition to including people whose gender identity is the opposite of their assigned sex (trans men and trans women), it may include people who are not exclusively masculine or feminine (people who are non-binary or genderqueer, including bigender, pangender, genderfluid, or agender).[2][6][7] Other definitions of transgender also include people who belong to a third gender, or else conceptualize transgender people as a third gender.[8][9]
