Because complaining about "campers" just screams noob to me. They're so easy to defeat, and many shooters incorporate actual gameplay elements that are almost indistinguishable from camping (e.g. sniping) to the point that you're like "why are you complaining about somebody playing the game?" What are they supposed to do, run around and 360 no-scope everything?

I mean shit, 2 of the most popular shooters this gen, Rainbow Six Siege and PUBG, involve significant amounts of time sitting still and being stealthy. Yet in freaking 2019 I still hear people saying "camping bitch!"

Battle royale games have made camping all the rage. That's the only genre I can respect it in

People use camping inappropriately all the time. Sniping is not camping. Camping is like standing in the corner right behind a spawn or teleport exit to gib people from behind.

In games like black ops 4 where you can have trip Mines and guard dogs and microwave shields and barbed wire it's kind of dumb

I always saw legitimate camping as a crutch for getting kills at the cost of basically anything productive for either you or the team, because you suck so bad that you just need SOME sort of kill to not cry yourself to sleep. For example, hiding behind an inconspicuous and objectively insignificant wall with a shotgun and acting like a human tripwire, but you go like 3-0 as opposed to actually playing the game and going like 16-21.

What you described is spawn camping. Almost always referred to as specifically that.

Camping is a legitmate strat in deathmatch sland team deathmatch. The idea is to maxmimize kills and minimize risk. It also plays against the psyche of the majority of players that just bomb across maps with little forsight.

Sure, it is less raw skill than some playstyles but it is a legitmate strategy akin to rope a dope or trapping in real sports. Taking advantage of opponents aggressions and using it against them.

I just hate bridge campers in PUBG. It's my fault for crossing so late but I still hate them.

Usually you end up just minimizing risk AND kills.

Camping is fine.

Spawn camping makes you "that guy".

I find camping too boring for my taste. I'm too bloodthirsty for that passive play.

Fair that is a fair point but not relevant to those that argue it is a cheap strategy. In fact, it indicts those that complain even more. Camping is typically very easy counter. So, if you are dying to it alot, do not blame the camper.

Sometimes it makes sense to camp. Own a choke point with easily defensible positions? You should rack up kills there if you can. People that also just charge into battle giving up positions of power just to avoid camping are also a problem.

I'd rather have a teammate go 27-12 rushing than 7-2 camping. The rusher contributed a lot more to the team winning than the camper did.

Spawn camping is just one type of camping. You can do the same for powerups, in MMOs there's also corpse camping, camping specific to some games like in WoW camping the flight master or raid entrance.
