The government has no legal mandate to effectively provide people with healthcare.

So?

There are a lot of things the government isn't legally required to provide, but does anyway because people want it and it makes the country better.

But healthcare costs a lot of money

So does police forces, schools, etc.

I looked up gun control in Australia because someone mentioned Australia in this topic.

You have to get a gun license to have a gun, and you need a reason to have a gun license, which doesn't include self defense.

You aren't going to find many people interested in that.

Owning a gun to defend yourself or your family is the most important reason to own a gun in the first place.

How come other people in other countries don't use guns to protect their families or themselves?

Also when you do own guns here in Australia they have to be kept in a lockable safe and you can't carry in public. Also I'm pretty sure handguns are basically illegal all the time, you can only obtain "hunting" or target practice guns.

When Sandy Hook happened, if photos & video of the massacre had been released showing the bodies & gore then something would have been done. The horrific visuals would have motivated people more than just a helicopter aerial view of the school building.
