Today's the last straw. Had an IVDU patient who tends to flee AMA quite often who stuck his hand down my scrubs and tried to get in my underwear.

There's a really fucked up thing about healthcare - patients have exponentially more rights and protections than healthcare providers. Nurses deal with this shit daily and often stay silent, because it always falls on deaf ears.

Thing is, I'm the only hospitalist here and legally I cannot refuse to see the patient, nor do I have any power to get the police to help out until after he's discharged.

Fucking tired of this. I've been felt up at least a dozen times in the past year.

I can't image how much worse it must be for nurses.

You can, but it's so unpredictable you can't always ask for a chaperone with every patient every time.

How can you have no recourse? It makes no sense to me. It's sexual assault regardless of them being a patient with rights. What does that even mean anyway? What rights and protections are you talking about?

You need to file charges against these creeps or they'll keep doing it.

My gf is a nurse and she tells me all about patients can pretty much get away with anything and no one does anything. More in terms of how they can threaten, or berate for no reason, but I'm sure groping in many cases would be treated the same.

She did say several patients ask her to either clean or put medication on their crotch because they are creeps. In this case if there is no medical reason why they can't do it themselves she says no, I'm sure you can handle it, and walks out.
