Just pay 10-20 dollars a month on that bill for the rest of your life and not worry about it. As long as you pay something they can't come after you for medical.

What did they do in your experience?

Because in my experience, after a year or two they settle or wipe the account as a charitable act.

Of course, I go to hospitals with religious affiliations so maybe that is why

Same. Just call and say what you can afford a month. Theyll either agree or offer a massive discount to pay in full.

Or donate sperm. That way you can pass down your genes without paying medical bills.

Yup. I just wish the government would get involved at least a little bit. These unregulated health markets are out of control!

Then you have either the best insurance around or you had/have government assistance. Even with the amazing kaiser plan I had before my job changed carriers we still had to pay $250 as a copay.

I had had a silver-tier health plan when my daughter was born and we ended up with around a $5000 bill in the end there. So glad we had Kaiser for kid #2. -_-

He could live in a different country. In Australia we only pay for scans/tests made outside of the hospital (that usually have rebates) and any medicine required.

This. I think to most people outside the US paying to stay in hospital sounds insane. My daughter spent the first five months of her life in hospital and we didn't pay anything.

I usually start off my negotiating with the billing department with this mentality. Either you fix this or I'm just not paying anything and I'll settle with collections for a fraction of the cost
