These are like the people who say cable is dead when there are more people with cable now than 20 years ago.

Phones have definitely disrupted the gaming industry. I don't think there's any more mobile gaming devices aside from hardcore followers that niche has been swallowed by the mobile tech industry. Streaming games will become more of a norm as televisions become more like consoles and with internet speeds set to go even after than ever we're looking at a new era of gaming. Movies are also going to transform into more interactive adventures where the audience can use wireless devices to make choices for the protagonist, this will bring in mega bucks for the entertainment industry as they can make several endings for one movie so people will want to re-watch movies to get different endings. It's a whole lot of what ifs but I see consoles just like I see desktops, completely obselete. I can plug in a thumb drive and turn my TV into a smart TV, you're telling me I need this huge console and disks that I have to go and get or order online in order to play a game; mega outdated if you ask me.

Mobile gaming is absolutely trash with the exception of emulation, which doesnt even count as mobile gaming

Streaming is absolutely trash for any games requiring quick reaction times. Streaming will remain a gimmick for most of our lives

People still game on consoles and pcs but they're also on mobile. As soon as phones can replicate or at least come close to a console gaming experience, which they are as 5g just came out, aside from grassroots movements most of the modern consoles will die off. A phone is simply too handy, so the gaming industry is gonna have to pull out some striking vipers/sword art online tech in order to compete with the mobile market. With things like the oculus out its just to continue settling for traditional gaming, especially with how complicated modern console gaming is(seriously, I feel like I need to get certified in order to play some of these games) so a soft reset in the gaming industry needs to happen. We already saw that simple games like Pokmon go can get massive followings so it's definitely looking like we're heading more towards AR and VR gaming and moving away from console gaming. Which should get people excited as they'll finally be getting some much needed vitamin d.

How are smartphones going to close the gap it has from consoles?

Even if we solely talk about streaming I don't think syncing up a controller to a phone and then getting that image on your television is going to be a simpler experience than what consoles provide. Then you've got internet connections on top of that.

The mobile market cannot compete with the real games market because the mobile market does not respect the customer. You might think IAP shit is bad for console and PC games... wait until you look at mobile games.

And as i said earlier, game streaming wont replace real consoles and pcs because of technical limitations. 5g and even 6g will not overcome these limitations.

The mobile market goes both ways really. Mobile gamers in general also aren't interested in paying one lump sum to play a game. Free to play games are the popular games. Games just don't really have value on that platform.

Yeah. If youre gonna pay $60 for the latest release, youre gonna buy the superior pc or console version. And if they release an inferior, budget version for the phone who would want to play that? And not everyone has a controller for their phone for retro games/emulation

There's a lot of ways mobile gaming could wreck console gaming you just named one way. If whoever the heck is running all this decides to have a casting feature with a gaming app that you can use your phone for its not hard to imagine people syncing up and having gaming parties with just their phones and a more integrated television system that completely cuts out the console middle man and creates a new way to game, one not so dependant on finger dexterity, but one that involves more movement so that its healthier, this seems to be the best path until we reach fully immersive gaming systems like that in Sao which aren't too far off.
