I think it might have to do with restlessness, almost as though people are on the run from something or someone at that age. Some people really enjoy working. My aunt is 70 and owns her own business. She is there every single day and gets home at 8pm every night. I have never seen someone work so hard. But she makes a lot of money and supports a lot of family.

Simple, they fell prey to capitalist propaganda. The bulk of which came from the rich and bourgeoisie in order to make them think work=the only thing that proves you have value in society.

Honestly, I'm not thrilled about the idea of full retirement. I think even when I am able to afford retirement, I'd still want to work part-time, just to keep my mind on something and meeting other people on a regular basis.
I've met people who do that in their late seventies and early eighties who come off as more energetic than people in their early seventies who haven't done shit since retiring. This only convinces me to keep my mind focused on something, even when I don't have to. --- One time, CE triggered me so hard with their objectively wrong opinions that I accidentally punched myself in the balls. ... Retirement just isn't for some people
When my dad retired he took a few months off not doing much, but just wanted more. He started his own business flipping homes and is now making a ton of money just on that. A small handful of people are lucky enough to work jobs they love and are happy working there.
The vast majority of people live hand to mouth their whole lives, due to a combination of employer operations being designed to minimize worker pay (example: new hires are the largest salary bumps you get your whole career, because raises are designed to not keep up with your market value...because changing jobs is stressful and often requires moving to a new area, so workers are not motivated to do it) and decisions made throughout their lives that cause their living expenses to rise with what little salary gains they make. Most of the people who choose not to retire are doing so because they must, not because they can. Another factor is that the human brain was designed to protect against saber tooth tigers and not against complex trading algorithms, so individual investors are notoriously bad, underperform indexes, and generally do poorly in the stock market as a result of loss aversion. --- LittleBigPlanet is like merging dress-up with a real game. ...
