I moved into my place 5 years ago on Super Bowl weekend and my new neighbour invited me to his party. I have zero interest in football but I went anyways and we became instant friends.

5 years later I still go over to drink beers with him and his buddies several times a week.

So I live on a cul-de-sac with a few houses.

The extent of our conversation with the one household was a "Hi" "Hi you must be the new neighbors nice to meet you!" thirty second exchange. We talked to them about getting a few trees removed between our properties, since we had just moved in we wanted to make sure it was kosher that we were getting rid of stuff that maybe they wanted to keep. I figured it was the polite thing to do.

We talked to another household a few times, the husband mostly just comes to reprimand us if we forget to mow the lawn for a while, or like one time this contractor we hired was blocking his driveway (to be fair that contractor was a douchebag). So that's about that.

The other household the wife came and talked to my wife a few times while I was at work. They're nice, they offered to let us use any of their tools for housework and stuff but we felt uncomfortable since we just moved in. They asked us if they could take some rocks off our property or take some of the wood from the trees we had chopped down, and that was about it.

It's kind of awkward, half the time I wave or say hi and don't get any response and then other times they wave at me and I feel like a jerk because I didn't wave.

Neighbors to the right: very nice, social, we hug all the time, they greet me every time they see me mowing the lawn or letting the dogs out or getting into my car or coming back from a run, always making conversation

Neighbors behind: we don't talk as much as the neighbors I mentioned before but our dogs play with each other

Neighbors in front: never even seen them

Neighbors to the left: never even seen them
