Do people like that actually exist or is it just a meme conservatives use to make fun of nonbinary people? Because every nonbinary person ive seen just used they/them

I interacted with one musician who used zhe/xir and it was fucking annoying. I know/have worked with plenty of people who use they/them and thats never a problem.

How does they/them even work in conversation without someone sounding illiterate?

Just once, but they were a trainwreck of a person, and that had nothing to do with being trans.

When talking to them use "you" or their name, when speaking about them say "Oh, they just ran to the store and will be back soon".

.. and the first three examples relate to situations where multiple people, of potentially various genders are implicated in a given scenario.

It's absolutely silly to use "they" when referring to a specific individual. In fact, it can be quite confusing.

For example:

Person A: "Where did they go"?

Person B: "What do you mean where did they go" Who are you talking about?"

Person A: "Oh I mean where did Ashley go?"

Person B: "Oh, Ashley went to get something to eat"

Oh, they're over there.

I know you want to shit your pants about pronouns, but don't deliberately misunderstand the language while you do it.

yes, and it works exactly the same way when you're referring to a specific person.

In fact, it can be quite confusing.

there are three possibilities where it might be confusing:
1. English isn't your first language (depending on what your first language is; many languages have gender neutral pronouns)
2. you have a complete inability to interpret contextual clues
3. you are being deliberately obtuse

I have a guess about which is the case for you, but I'll keep it to myself.

If you've never heard the usage of "they" referred to a singular individual (especially an individual whose gender you don't know), you might actually be a caveman

"deliberately misunderstanding the language" is a broader category which contains "shitting one's pants about pronouns"
