Sometimes, a dog runs out the door once, and won't come back in.
...except during a thunderstorm.

I like to take my dog on the porch in thunderstorms and give him the option to leave >_>. It's funny watching him debate it and then running back inside. Sometimes I just go out there and hold him until he's too scared tho

I'm originally from a semi-rural area. I went to college in a semi-rural area. I still have family in semi-rural areas.

The vast majority of dogs were still mostly indoor dogs, and people that kept their dogs outside the vast majority of the time were uniformly considered trash and shitty dog owners. The only exception really being farmers that had barn dogs, but those still had pretty good setups for them.

Maybe if you lived in Dartmouth style rural dude. I'm glad there wasnt a lot of trashy people where you lived but your situation is not indicative of my own sadly.

I imagine TC is comically chasing the dog around the house with Benny Hill music playing as they go from room to room.

cats can become pests in their own way, but I suppose that's true. Dogs take way more energy

this is true, but we love our dog very much even as much as our deceased cat (we still miss her).
only bad thing about the dog is the long walk in the heat (gotta do it for her) so she can get her exercise for the day.

Did I ever say it's fine how people treat their dogs around here? Like sorry but I'm not going to do all this shit to make it so the dog getting in the house isn't a nightmare just because my sister doesnt mind letting her in but also doesnt bother doing anything with her.

Im sorry for the dog too. Slightly sorry for your situation but mostly the dog. I just feel like training the dog a little everyday solves both problems. Do you not want to do it cause it feels like your sister gets off scott free?

I dunno. I personally couldnt stand by and let an animal I live with suffer just because they arent my responsibility.

When I was 17, my older brother abandoned his 3 year old cat at our house. I wasnt much of a cat person there. My mom hates cats and my sister is allergic. So it came to me to give him food and water, take him to vet appointments, litter box, etc. That cat ended up following me around the house all the time. My mom would say she wouldnt even see him until I came home from school. I eventually took full ownership and he was the best cat. I had him until he passed away at 14.
