You read novels when you're walking around in public?

No, I also only use my phone when I am either standing still or sitting down.

That's my husband's issue. It's easy to say, "Oh that's just the world we live in today" or that I'm being a neurotic spouse, but phone addiction truly has created real problems in other areas of his life, and mine. He's lost jobs over it, and I feel like I have to submit requests for sex in writing seven business days in advance so he can pencil in time away from YouTube. Some days it truly is like being the third wheel in some sick relationship between him and his phone. It hits especially hard since I'm the total opposite type of person to begin with; when I'm not sitting in front of an actual computer at my sometimes boring desk job I have no problem falling off the grid completely, not glancing at my phone for sometimes for days at a time.

Sometimes when I'm in a mall or a busy public place and I look around and 90% of people are staring at their phones I feel like I'm in a bizarro dystopia.

I'm totally a weirdo because I actually do not own any type of phone. Not a home phone, not a cell phone, not a Megaphone, or even a xylophone.

People always react in total shock when I tell them.

What gets me is how many people I see staring at their phones while they're out walking their dog or waiting in line at the grocery store. It's sad how people can't just "be" for even a few minutes at a time.

It's a swift social dodge to avoid the awkwardness that used to ensue in that situation.

How long have you had your current phone? I was on a "dumb phone" until like two weeks ago when my cell that I've had for like a decade finally broke on me, so now I've got a smartphone too.

What kind of job do you have? My job essentially requires a smart phone. I can't imagine trying to text multiple people with t9

I don't think the phone is the problem. It is the apps. Like I use my phone to browse the web. If it breaks or goes down I would just use my computer to browse the web.

it's the ultimate crutch for social anxiety.

People can no longer just sit by themselves idly. They have to be on their phone surfing social media or the internet.

It is scary how addicted we've become to our phones.

It's also amazing how disrespectful people can be with them. If I see someone on their phone at dinner it's so off-putting.
