Nintendo technically only owns 1/3rd of Pokemon and tbh they've for the most part just let GameFreak and Creatures Inc do their thing with Pokemon and they've always handled business and Nintendo had much of a reason to change up how they handled things with Pokemon because they've always done a good job for the most part until recently. But this game's "animations" just take the still model of the Pokemon and rotate it a bit or put a 2d foot or fist in front of them. Literally Iwata took gold/silver from them and not only fixed basically every problem by himself he cut down the size of the game so much that they fit basically all of Kanto in it as well. When people say GameFreak are terrible developers, that's not really a hyperbole.
