Culture shock has been minimal so far. By far the biggest hurdle to overcome is the dearth of American breakfast food. I mean, it exists, but its not nearly as omnipresent.

Shin Chan is also extremely popular, if the amount of stuff with him on it is any indication. Theres a kids notebook that I cant post here because it has Shins bare ass on it lol.

Literally a tv channel that airs professional Starcraft matches lol. (Im unironicaly invested in the all day all night shogi and go channels though <_<)

Also, after flipping through all the porn channels where Im at ( no previews lol) you end up at the religion channels lol

Im literally the only white guy in the country. Well, Im obviously exagerating, Im sure if I venture to the more popular destinations thatll change. Still, I feel like I just invited myself into somebody elses home. All I want is to -not- be a stereotype of a rude, weird foreigner lol

Toilet game too stronk. Heated seats and bidets are shockingly common. Step up, America-senpai

Everywhere you go you need to seperate garbage between regular trash, food waste, and recyclables. Wonder how successful a similar initiative would be in America >_>

Zoids still exists! Well, havent found th model kits, but there was a gachapon machine selling figures.

Theres this fast food place called Lotteria thats like if you combined Wendys sandwiches with McDonalds fries. Dunkin Donuts texture here is super soft and spongey.

Korean bookstores are pretty lit. Huge selection of international books from all over the world as far as I can tell. All in Korean obviously, still, fun and interesting compared to whats left of Americas bookstores back home.

On the other hand, DVD and game stores have been pretty hard to find where Im at. Wife says online shopping has made hobby and entertainment shops pretty rare in Korea. Shame. I need to find at least one card game shop in this country before I leave lol.

Did find a small video game shop. Surprised that I didnt find many games we didnt also have back home. But they were selling a bootleg SNES classic preloaded with like a hundred games. Real games too, like Castlevania and Aladdin, not that cheap diet shovelware nobody asked for.

K-Pop is less absurdly priced but Im not going to be -that- guy >_>

Healthcare is cheap as shit over here too. Even without insurance a trip to the hospital is less than a hundred bucks. (Apparently like 60-70). For this alone im seriously looking into permantly expatriating myself here lol.

Havent been able to do too much since my sleep pattern is all out of whack. Hopefully gonna sort that out soon >_>

Mindsets like this is why the native people think foreigners are exploiting the health care system.

i'd like to make it back to korea someday. haven't been in 30 years. how do you guys make it so that your sleep schedule isn't altered too much. do you try to sleep at the same times you normally would back home. i.e. if you normally go to bed at 10:00 at night in America would you go to sleep at 2:00 in in the afternoon in korea since they're 16 hours ahead.

Not TC but all cars are either Hyundai, Kia, or German luxury (BMW, Audi Mercedes) with a sprinkling of Chevy and other Korean domestic brands.

Japanese cars are really rare

Yes they still hate each other. Why do you think XBOX is king in Korea and not playstation and nintendo.

I actually never see XBox stuff in stores. Only Playstation and Nintendo.

And currently Japan and Korea are fighting over trade stuff and Japanese atrocities from pre-World War 2 so we will be seeing even less Japanese imports in the next year or more.

Just some stuff I forgot to respond to.

Lotteria is pretty garbage food normally. It's decent "Literally nothing around is open, might as well get this" last-resort type of food. If they still do the AZ Burger, that's decent. Mom's Touch obliterates it and pretty much all fast food though. Love that stuff.

If you really like book stores and your wife is up for the Busan trip, there is a book-street with a SHIT TON of old books in a ton of stores. I picked up of neat Korean fable book from the 50's in great condition.

And be very, very careful when you do medical stuff here. There is no form of HIPAA here really. So if you get a job, your employers might be able to see all of your medical files at the ease of a phone call. Also dentists are known to instruct their hygienists to claim foreigners have cavities to up your bill. Not all of them but just be careful. I had one office say I had 20 (!) cavities.

Lol my wife was telling me everyone hated Lotteria. It wasnt game changing but it was fine for me. Ill definitely look out for those other ones though, thanks!

And the book street too! Busan might happen, but itll be after her MCAT.

And thanks for the warning. Im not making it a point to go to the hospital myself though. But in 2018 I suffered a crap ton of random nonsense that screwed us over financially. Just realizing my wife paid like, 70 bucks in Korea when I had comparable service in the US and was making 70 dollar payments for months really messed with me lol.

My local trash/recycling company has started collecting recycling in the same truck as trash because now that China doesn't want our recycling exports, the city has deemed it too expensive to continue their municipal recycling program >_>
