er, this morning.

Woke up at 2 am from a loud bang in the kitchen and I thought someone was breaking in. I turn on all the lights just to find out my cat knocked over a chair and had a mouse in her mouth.

I almost thought it was one of her chew toys because they look like mice and all I could see was the tail dangling from her mouth. But I could tell she was acting different. She drops the mouse and I see it's leg twitch and it makes a sad squealing noise and flops on its back under the table. My cat goes nuts trying to get to it but its already fucked and laying on its back. I take a broom and dust pan to pick it up and throw it out the back door.

When I wake up in the morning I see it still lying dead out there so I throw it deeper in the woods. I dont know how she killed it. I didnt see any blood or anything. Shes never bitten me too hard but she does rip apart her cat toys.

Im guessing it came from the basement as Ive found a dead one there a couple of times. I live in the forest so its expected but Ive never had one in the actual house. I wonder how shes reacting to her first kill :/ she hasnt changed her personality too much but the excitement is clearly in her eyes D:

I wasnt gonna let her play with the mouse lol

Im pretty sure its just a small harmless mouse. I grew up near this town and whenever I had clean our pool growing up I saw these exact same mice in our filter a couple times a week.

She only had the mouse in her grasp for less than a minute, and even then she clearly didnt know what to do with it. But it was definetly dead the minute I picked it up in the dust pan

Cats are pretty good at breaking the spine, so probably that.

It really doesn't change their personality when they kill something. They're always killers inside even if they don't get to kill.

My dogs do this a lot. When they opened up the crawl space to work there, some got into the house. My dogs killed most of them. One dog caught one out of the air. They can kill them without shedding blood. Most of the ones I found had no blood on them. They would sometimes put them on their couch. I put them out front. Which lured other cats to my house, including the pregnant one.

My cats is too small for mice. But she does play with bugs. She sees them when we go out for a couple minutes at night...

One of my grandma's old dogs would grab mice, crunch them once or twice, then swallow them whole.

Not sure I wanna know what my dog would do if he ever caught a rodent

All his chew toys are squirrels and the first thing he does is chew off their eyes

I thought my dogs would do something bad because they tear toys to shreds. But I think they know the mice were alive. They just like playing with them...

Chill the fuck out. Ive never seen my baby kitten run into another animal, let alone kill one. She only watches birds and squirrels from the window. Im merely reacting to the effect it has on her.

Ive also never posted in a topic nor made any topic about the shit youre talking about. Relax bro

Basically. Some folk yell at their cats when they bring them a present. I personally praised my cat for it as he just wanted my approval. He caught a bird at times too.

Killing mice okay , but killing native birds is not okay . Don't praise cats for killing birds that are already dying out in masses. Cats are invasive species so don't bring up the It's Natural argument

One cat on this island nearly killed out an entire species of birds. I read about it once. Anyway, I think it depends on the type of bird. Killing a couple pigeons, for example, probably wont mater much. Or some other birds that has a healthy population amount.

Cats are predators dude no matter how they act around you they can easily kill a mouse without thinking. It doesn't matter if you have never seen the cat claw or bite anyone.

Yeah Im glad she took care of it, and that I now have a walking talking mouse trap. I was just shocked cause Ive never owned a cat before this one (had her for about 3 years now). Im just not used to it, especially since shes acted so innocent to me. Ive been proud of her since and actually praised her when it happened, I was just surprised

I wouldn't mind borrowing your cat >_> my neighbors left food out on the back yard which attracted mice, we've now got an infestation using live traps I've captured around 10 mice, this didn't work, using kill traps I've now got 30 dead mice in my freezer. On the plus side, it's free food for my snake.

Could you let the snake loose in the house to catch them all?

Before I saw you had a snake, I was going to ask why you were keeping they in the freezer...

I wouldn't risk it, if he's hungry he'll likely kill one of them, but if he didn't he'd be the one that ends up being killed. As strange as it may seem mice frequently kill snakes by chewing into their spinal column while in enclosed spaces, it's one of the reasons why I won't give him live feed on the off chance he doesn't make the kill.

Good thing you found her before lol.
I've had cats leave them at my feet while sleeping.
I even got up, took a shower for work and in the 5 minutes that took me I had them leave one in my bed.

They give them as presents but they're not fun to wake up to.

Yeah. Thats actually one of the reasons I dont use the poison for them where I live. I know the cats outside like to snack on them. Plus, my dogs will attack them and it could get into their system. And now my cat, as well...

My cats have never seen a mouse and still go fucking ham on their toys, like, berserker mode. It's just part of cat instinct, so don't worry about her being all deranged suddenly.

Still sorry to hear that, if you have any sort of affection towards smaller critters like that.
