That Ouya was sure some shit. I never realized how bad it was till I watched OneyPlays do a video on it. I can't believe people paid for that. It's on the level of the Souljaboy console

I was watching some TV news program and they were comparing vidya consoles for the holiday season. They decided to 'spice it up' they'd show the Ouya in place of the Wii U. AHAHAHA

Gen 6: Gamecube, PS2, Xbox
Gen 7: Wii, PS3, Xbox 360
Gen 8: Wii U, PS4, XB1
Gen 9: Switch, ?? (PS5 probably), ??

Nintendo shouldn't be punished for being first out the gate. Why force them to create yet another console for "gen 9" if you're still counting the Switch as gen 8?

Releasing a new console doesnt mean that a new gen has started. The Wii U was a failure so they rushed out the switch to replace it. Its still part of gen 8. Even Wikipedia says so

Console generation is a stupid idea to begin with. Basically setting yourself up for competition, when Switch literally just avoided all that and had all the audience they wanted to themselves.

While that system was garbage it wasn't the most insane thing to think given how really successful mobile gaming is

Yeah it's a fair point, but mobile games thrived on accessibility and portability, 2 things that people actually find really important in gaming in general.

Mobile gamers spend like hundreds on some games and refuse to buy a console because of the immediate cost of buying one. It's very in the moment and all. OUYA was the furthest thing from it, and I couldn't imagine it being all that successful when mobile game exclusive consoles weren't exactly flying off the shelf back then either

Vita/3DS was the handheld gen paired with PS3/Wii U.
Switch is the next handled gen to go with PS4.
There are no more Nintendo consoles and no more Sony handhelds.

Nintendo just super extended the Gamecube's life by adding motion controls and calling it Wii. WiiU finally caught them up with PS3.

I can hold a PS4 in my hand, and it also has controller support and a TV output, just like laptops and cell phones. It must be a handheld.

Let's face it, the handheld/home console distinction no longer mattered once the Switch got into the fray. It wasn't 270p or whatever like the 3DS, and it basically had ports from other home consoles that could be played in the exact same manner as you could in other home consoles, just that it can also be played handheld.

People need to start thinking about what words mean. If you say things and it's pretty fucking obvious to everybody that the word literally means nothing, then you stop using it. Calling Switch a handheld is utterly pointless when it does everything that a home console does too

That's silly, PS4 has no screen. PSPGo and many cell phones and tablets have had controller and TV support long before the Switch existed, so would you call those home consoles?

It's just a Nintendo handheld that finally has a proper TV output, which is great and I have wanted that from their handhelds for decades, but lets not fall for their marketing and convince ourselves Nintendo performed some miracle technological revolution with the Switch lol.

Japan loves the Switch because it's Vita's successor. They loved the Vita too.
