I cancelled the order, changed my password and added 2-step verification with my phone

I check payment options and it shows information for a lady from california (I live in nyc) with her address and phone number and a visa ending in a 4 digit number that isn't any of my cards. I also don't keep any of my cards stored on my account to begin with

wtf? what would be the purpose? just to use my prime? I'm tempted to call her lmao

Lucky you caught that. If it went through and she filed a claim with her card company it would come back to your account and get you in a mess. Id still contact amazon to let them know.

Theyre testing it. It looks suspect if they try for a huge purpose and something goes wrong/they cant provide ID, etc. so they test it small, see if you notice then go up from there.

It's probably card fraud, report it or you'll likely end up with your Amazon account being frozen/suspended.

I've had several cases resolved with Amazon support through the chat. It doesn't matter which option you pick, they will ultimately transfer you to the right person to help you.

Give it a try.

Amazon has one of the best customer support I've seen, at least through the chat.

That happened to me once on Best Buy's website. Someone had ordered a $2000 laptop under my account (to be delivered to an address that according to Google Earth didn't actually exist), but they used their own credit card to pay for it, so...I don't really know what the motivation was.

I did have my debit card skimmed once and got a phone call from my bank warning me about a possibly fraudulent charge. Got on the website, looked it up, and there was a $300 charge to a Walmart that I'd never been to in my life, plus a charge at a gas station in Kansas. I called the Walmart manager and told them about it, and the bank reversed the charges and cancelled the card. After that I downloaded the app and started locking my new card when I'm not using it.

Yeah, they've probably got an online store set up where they use stolen accounts and card numbers to fill seemingly legitimate orders on other accounts.

True, but I didn't think about that at the time due to the strangeness of the situation.

Mmm...I'd say it's probably more likely to be an address that the 'purchaser' (and I use that word loosely) has staked out as whoever lives there typically isn't around, i.e. it'll be easy to follow the delivery schedule and snatch the package once it's dropped off.

Take screenshots of the transaction info (erasing any identifying data) and send them to her.

No. It's more likely than not a third party.

To clarify, they're the ones ordering, but not the ones buying. They'll order from an eBay or Amazon store, the one placing the order will pay the fraudulent store who uses stolen data to ship the item using stolen credit card info. They'll keep the money they got from the one placing the order and use the stolen card to make the payment.

It's not implausible that these very orders are being placed through proxies or compromised machines, in addition to the compromised cards and billing addresses.

Meh, I spent months using the chat in order to get my stuff. Bought an item that was sold by Amazon themselves, after a week was told it would be 2-3 weeks before shipping, and then it turned into an infinite 'backorder' status for 8 months.

Contacted customer support and they said I should buy it from a 3rd party seller that had it available and that they would ship it expedited for free, but I declined, as the item I wanted was suffering from fakes going around at the time (labels would read 32GB or the write speed as a certain rate but others who did testing revealed much lower specs/
