You're not gonna get a Lil Bandit from the police auction. Mostly what you'll find is the types of shitty cars that people don't mind losing, because they know if they get arrested doing some serious shit then their vehicle will be seized.

That said, my and my sister's first cars were both auction vehicles. Hers was a Chevette, mine was a 86 Honda Accord (which I got in 2000, lol)

on rare occasion you'll find a nice, new car that was seized from a dealer or something but most of them are junkers like eston said.

another way to find a great deal on a car is to buy one from an old person who barely drives it.

It's been a month since the accident and I really need to start looking for some wheels

It's just I've never had to buy a car before, and am not exactly Mr. Knowledge when it comes to vehicles other than basic maintenance

Do they check the car for drugs before selling it? If not, sounds pretty risky if you ever go through a checkpoint with dogs.

airports have car auctions too, they sell the cars people leave in the parking lots. and if you've got a connection to a used car dealership you might be able to get one through their closed auctions.

That's the other thing, how do I know some drug-dealer's car isn't full of crack?

auction cars are always a gamble, that's just the nature of buying a vehicle without having enough time to do proper research or inspection

Presumably they would have searched the vehicle when it was seized, since evidence is pretty important for trials and also they don't want the liability of selling drugs to people

So I'm looking at sites and it seems that most vehicles under $1000 are pieces of junk, and better stuff goes for $3000 or more

at that rate I may as well just look at a dealership for used cars in that same range >__>

A few years ago there was someone, maybe a teenager, who bought a car at a police auction.

Turns out there was cocaine stashed inside from the drug bust the cops never found. He got pulled over, car searched, and arrested.

If you do get a police auction car, keep all the receipts handy and ask if their K9 units can give it a once over.

just look at this Audi that's selling for one dollar

The Agency has reported the following known information: All tires low/flat. See image details for any damages/defects.

This vehicle has not been inspected by a certified mechanic so the overall running condition cannot be verified. It is suggested that the winning bidder have the vehicle thoroughly inspected prior to attempting to drive it.

LOL, a buddy of mine got an 86 or 87 Honda accord in 1999 or so and it lasted well into the 2000's until a drunk driver hit him and finally killed it. Those things are almost immortal.
