So I only have really watched a few matches of NJPW. Mainly the Omega vs Okada matches. But I'm gonna guess Tanahashi is one of the older wrestlers in the company? He didn't have a lot of active time in that match. Will Ospreay was fucking great tho

Tanahashi is the John Cena of New Japan. He's the Ace of the company, but like John Cena, he is slowing down. But he can still have amazing matches. His match with Kota Ibushi in this year's G1 was fucking amazing. Hell, his entire G1 was great (The G1 is New Japan yearly tournament. Unlike a normal tournament, you have 2 Blocks and you face everyone in your Block once and get points. Top points from each Block meet in the finals for a chance to face the World Champion at WrestleKingdom. Tanahashi won that and will face Omega for the title on 1/4, and it's going to be an awesome match)

But unlike John Cena (in a way, I'll give Cena his due) Tanahashi took a dead company, put it on his fucking back, and carried New Japan into what it is today. New Japan was on death's door until Tanahashi got a push and not only put on great matches, but worked hurt so New Japan could keep going.

Tanahashi was the MAN of New Japan for the past 7 years or so. Omega didn't sniff the main event until 2017, and didn't win the title until this year

I mean, I'll explain it to you, but do how much do you want to read? lol

New Japan was one of the greatest promotions of all time for most of it's early life, but then it's then owner, Antonio Inoki, wanted to focus more on MMA stuff and made a lot of his top guys to do real MMA fights and they ended up getting wrecked for the most part, and getting legit hurt so they couldn't do matches for New Japan.

And in these New Japan matches, they were bringing in MMA people to do worked MMA matches where the top stars would get injured as well

It was very, very bad days for New Japan. And Tanahashi helped New Japan pull out of these days.

Yes, Okada is the guy now, I'm sorry. Okada would be like if Orton would be in Roman's position, kind of.

Tanahashi and Okada was a huge feud over the top spot in the company (Cena vs Orton), but with Okada being a heel and Tanahashi the big babyface, Tana was the guy. The FACE of the company

But with Tanahashi getting more broken down over the years because not only is Tanahashi a bit older than Okada, but Tanahashi had no break when he was caring the company on his back. Tanahashi has started to get more into movies and TV deals because his body is so broken down (Cena held the WWE on his shoulders as well for a number of years, and now is taking an early break in terms of pro wrestlers), but Cena never had the feud with Roman like Tana and Okada had, and Orton is never going to be the Face of the company

Granted not every show has English, some dont even have Japanese commentary, lol. But for the most part, every show has English commentary now.
