Radio stations removing it is definitely excessive (if nothing else, far, far worse stuff gets through unquestioned), but the whole controversy surrounding it is completely understandable. Taken with anything less than the complete context (including the time period and the predefined relationship of the song's characters), the song does not depict a healthy, consensual relationship, and it's worth taking a step back to recognize the full context that's needed for it to become just flirtatious fun. In a world where inappropriately-presumed consent is a major social issue, it's only natural that such a song would breed controversy.

Every person IRL that Ive heard talk about it has felt that the current reaction to the song is stupid

"Taking it out of context" means "hearing it after 1950" and "hearing it without it being previously established that the two characters are in such a relationship that this would be considered just flirting," neither of which are particularly active efforts to remove the context. I have heard recordings of the song where the guy just comes across as creepy because of how the characters were played, and that's because the performance took away the context of the implied consensual relationship. I've also heard (more) recordings where it is obviously playful banter and two consenting adults have fun being coy about their relationship.

It's not a matter of "this disgusting smut should be banned for promoting rape," it's a matter of "hold on a second that's kind of weird but I guess it's okay now that I look closer at it."

And in a world where we're trying to teach those impressionable kids about proper consent. "It's okay because no means yes when she says it" just confuses the issue of consent for anyone who doesn't already know why that statement is true in this very specific case. They wont listen, though. Because the SJWs usually dont care. Then want to get everything banned. And as soon as they do, they move on and forget about it. Sometimes, literally forget about it. Maybe a few were ok when they first started. Most people now are doing it because its the new fad. They have no idea who they should be helping or what to do. So, now its just random shit that nobody cares about. Or they dont like something, so lets get it banned. Or people like this, and it would be cool not to. So, lets get it banned. And shit like that. They want to change things in the world that dont need changing to get themselves a spot in history.
