He had an abusive father who was his agent and made him do all these Hollywood roles. One of the reasons why Macaulay Culkin was such a good child actor is that his dad stopped him from having friends, locked him in rooms and forced him to memorize all his lines.

His dad and mom got divorced and during a long and brutal ugly divorce proceeding, his mom won the rights to custody of Macaulay Culkin.

When this happened she asked him if he wanted to keep acting or not (His dad never gave him a choice) and Culkin passionately said no.

Macaulay Culkin then took both his parents to court as a teenager to demand the right to control over his own earned money (over 50 million dollars) that technically his parents were still overseeing. He won.

Macaulay Culkin then went to High School with his own luxry apartment, made a band and had a blast (while getting addicted to drugs) for years straight. He loved this period of his life because he was having fun and actually around people his own age rather than constant group of adults.

he's kept in contact with his mom and siblings and severed ties with his dad because he hates him.

Believe it or not, Macaulay Culkin never stopped being offered roles. He just didn't want to act when he was a teen, and as an adult he only picks roles he likes that pay well.

And especially now he is clean, he's really NOT as fucked up as most people assume he was. "Oh he got raped by MJ, did Meth and that's why no one offered him roles!" is literal fake news
