Over the past year, several colleges have improved access to menstrual products on their campuses, including in some mens and gender-neutral restrooms.

Campus leaders say stocking all bathrooms with such products is a relatively easy way to make sure no one is left out. The University of Wisconsin at Madison, the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and Brown University are a few other institutions that provide free menstrual products in some mens and gender-neutral restrooms, in order to be more inclusive of transgender students.

Part of the growing "free the tampon" movement has been an effort to make college more fair for students who menstruate, a concept for which Jennifer Weiss-Wolf coined the phrase "menstrual equity."

This is absolutely insane. Actively promoting the idea in higher level educational facilities that men menstruate and need access to tampons? Wtf is next? Allowing men's breastfeeding areas so their newborns can suckle them in safety?

The worst part of that is there are woman in that area that probably need hygiene products but they don't have the means to access them

Uh... the egg is just a tiny microscopic thing. It's not really what a period is. It's the tissue and blood lining the uterus that builds up every month in preparation for a baby, and starts over when a fertilized egg doesn't latch

As far as the issue at hand, if my uni did this I really wouldnt care. If it provides comfort for ftms that havent transitioned then cool. I can handle there being a tampon dispenser in the restroom. Has zero effect on my ability to use a public restroom

I feel like stocking bathrooms with tampons is a SMALL drop in the bucket for these larger universities. And higher education wastes WAY more money that doesn't improve student life.

Spending a fraction to help that 2% is at least still helping students.

Plus for sports locker rooms, sometimes visiting teams will change in the opposite sexes locker rooms. So that is one less worry for visiting people.

Oh and also sometimes dorm floors change for different sexes every new school year. I remember in undergrad my freshman year we had tampon dispensers in the bathrooms. The following year they change it to a men's dorm but didn't bother taking them out apparently. So it's time saving when changes are made like that.

Even when they do it's usually "hey, tenured professors now get a X% pay increase every few years to reflect our increase in tuition". Which is to say, you guessing that sports help isn't actually presenting an argument, it's reaching at best since you said it in passing.

But hey, you're the one bitching about something you don't understand nor have you ever demonstrated any desire to become informed on the matter.

While I dont agree with calling this issue nonsensical, sports do open the door to education for kids that may not have had a chance to go otherwise through scholarships.
