The California Chief Justice, also (formerly) republican, exited citing the Kavanaugh trial as her reason.

Overall claims of discontent that the republican party is no longer appealing to officials who identified themselves as moderate.

Hope the wall (that will never get built) and locking her up (which will never happen) was worth losing everything.

The GOP got crushed in DuPage County in Illinois, a longtime bastion of economic Republicans, and I can honestly say that the GOP in north shore has significantly shriveled up as well. I don't think it can be understated how many wealthier whites have been turned off by the party, which was essential for their electoral chances.

I'm not surprised. Explaining Trump has been something internationals have asked my wife as a tech firm executive fairly regularly. We're going to Japan and South Korea later this year for a conference of her's coupled with a vacation, and that's something they've given her an extra heads up on especially with North Korea.

Everyone, really, since many areas that were never competitive are about to become competitive. Both blue and red, though mostly red.

Will be a massive flush of morons out of government, competition in their place will be on basis of real policy and people who never voted will need to pay attention for the first time.

That's what I hope happens and what I've hoped that Trump's horrid performance for this country would do for America. However, the clever snakes will undoubtedly find a way to corrupt the democratic party further than it is. My fear would be that the democratic party will reject left wing politics and give the right its pedestal. I wouldn't mind voting conservadems out of course.

Good. Hopefully they'll run to a third party instead of the Democrats.

It's not like a third party will ever have a chance in this country, but it should, ideally, tell the two main parties what stances people support and make them adopt those stances in order to win back voters.

I might actually vote Republican eventually if they'd drop the wacky religious bullshit and loosen up on drug policies. Likewise, I would feel better leaning Democrat again if they'd stop pushing so hard with the identity politics and "open border" stuff.

People should be leaving because the Republicans refuse to acknowledge climate change.

moderate republicans and conservative dems are much more likely to pick sides based on feminist issues than on classic left-of-center policy subjects like climate change or healthcare, whether we are right or not.

that's why dems for years tacked so hard on women's issues- they were fighting for the center.

i think the general (sane) stance on climate change is that it can be agreed as far as that humans are accelerating a climate shift, but the means of a solution as well as how urgent of a matter it is are disagreed upon

The fact is a lot of women, especially the middle class suburban white women who were consistent Republican voters, have been completely turned off and away from Trump and the Kavanaugh stuff was the thing that was the final justification they had to leave the party. People try to dismiss or deny the reports and poke holes in what the definitions mean, but the fact is a lot of women out there have gone through some sort of sexual assault situation or at the minimum, been in positions where they have felt sexually uncomfortable from behavior by men like Kavanaugh. You can think he was completely innocent but the rhetoric used by the Republican party and people like Graham and Trump to attack and dismiss Ford completely was a total miscalculation. Poll after poll showed that a majority of women believed her. And it honestly doesn't matter if she was telling the truth or not, the perception of what's true is what matters. And paired with Trump's general sleaziness it was always going to hurt them when they can't afford to lose that voting base.

I think it'll swing both ways, tbh, and you're also seeing that the gender divide on support for the parties is going to be the thing to watch going forward. But I don't think the numbers are there or the messaging and rhetoric is ready for it to benefit Republicans, yet anyways. They have made some slight gains in male minority voters, but they are at such a disadvantage that it'll take more time for them to build that group up enough that it seriously impacts the Democrats.
