Was going to say it was because of early deep discounts but then I read it was by the dollar amount and not number of units.

I'm kind of puzzled since both have been marred by the absolute worst PR I've seen in recent memory. Maybe a lot of people preordered based on reputation/name alone?

Overall people on here are a vocal minority. The gamers who will buy the next big AAA multiplayer game day one to play with their friends are a much bigger audience. Wouldn't surprise me if most of them don't even know there are any controversies.

Meanwhile games like Hitman 2 don't get this benefit. There's no friends that force a lot of people to get in early.

Well, Battlefield V was absolutely fine and all the bitching and moaning was from trolls who weren't going to buy it to begin with, so I'm not surprised about that. I figured 76 wouldn't flop but I'm a bit surprised it sold that much.
