That's crazy. So much of space hasn't even been observed yet. what we know and see is the tip of the tip of the tip...I know it likely won't happen in my lifetime but i hope one day our technology advances enough to where we can explore those potential planets with ease.

What happens if they identify something even more distant? Do they name it Fartherout or something?

Farout is about 120 AU, or about 11 billion miles, from the sun. If you could drive straight there at a steady 60 miles per hour, you'd be behind the wheel for more than 21,000 years.

I don't know if I agree...

The widely accepted rule is to use farther when being literal and discussing a physical distance, as in He went farther down the road. Further is used when discussing a more symbolic distance or to discuss a degree or extent, as in I wanted to discuss it further, but we didnt have time.

Hypothetical Planet Nine should be even further out between 700 and 1200 AU. Should have saved the name for that.

It more than likely won't stick. This object will eventually be given a mythological name as is standard for objects in our Solar System.

I actually think furtherout should win, because if you name it fartherout people are going to call it "fart her out". And sure, that's hilarious. But come on, this is science.
