I'm a fucking nerd lol. I read Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, play JRPGs, and I obsessively watch old episodes of The Simpsons and Futurama.

Plus football takes up way too much time on Sundays and Monday nights to be dedicated to.

Football takes too much time but rewatching Simpsons and Futurama doesn't?

Football is a time specific thing that happens live at a set time and you have to dedicate a large chunk of Sunday or Monday night to enjoy it. I can boot up Hulu and watch Futurama whenever I feel like

If you learned more about the statistics of football as well as the strategy involved you would probably be a lot more interested.

this topic would have been relevant in 2010

most guys around my town don't care if people aren't into it. NFL fans know they're a dying breed.

I like most of those things and I'm still a football, UFC, Kpop fan. Thing is, I only really pay attention to my team (Chargers) and then individual players depending on who's on my fantasy team.

my wife & i went over to another couple's house last sunday for brunch. while the women were talking in the kitchen, the husband calls me over to the living room and puts on football, and makes this joke alluding to how we would both much rather be watching football than having to listen to them talk.

then he tries making football small talk with me. my brain immediately goes into fire drill panic mode as i desperately attempt to remember any sort of NFL knowledge that i have. as the husband is talking about who he thinks is having a good season and complaining about some team's defense i am trying to recall the name of a single fucking football player.

I see Andrew Luck on the TV screen and I think "hmmm, I might have heard that name before." I unsuccessfully try to recall a single detail about the player but nothing comes out. The husband asks me a question intending to start a football dialogue and I debate going outright and saying I have no interest in sports, but I have absolutely nothing in common with this guy and I dont want to just put that all on the table since I will cross paths with him again. I consider the "actually, I'm more of a basketball fan" but then I am taking that risk of bullshitting through a sports conversation that I also know nothing about.

Finally, I "haha yea, yup, mhmm" my way through the football conversation with the husband and sit there in near silence as he flips between two different football games. It is now Tuesday and the thought of that moment still haunts me

See, I know that this story is total bullshit because any self-respecting NFL fan in 2018 would watch the Sunday games on NFL RedZone, which flips between games for you to ignore commercials and shows the out-of-market games, rather than watch them on the normal cable channels.

Im a sports nerd. Here are the sports I follow.
-Football
-Basketball
-Baseball
-Soccer
-Hockey
-Poker
-Horse Racing
-X-Games

Occasionally I will watch off the wall stuff too like darts, bowling, NASCAR, etc. I cant watch story driven shows like GoT or Walking Dead. Sports and sports analysis shows only.
