I think 1995 is the millennial cutoff tbh; more specifically I think people in 1995 who graduated in 2013 are the last of gen Y, while the ones who graduated in 2014 marked the beginning of gen Z. No personal bias behind this post or anything.

what's the definite reason for this cutoff? I was born in 93 and feel more like a Gen Z than millennial.

Because millennial is described for the age group that grew up around the new millennium

If you're too young to remember the Backstreet Boys album Millennium, you're not a millennial.

I am classified as a 'millennial', but there are various differences in people my age and those who are at the bottom end of the 'range.' For example, growing up, I didn't have the internet nor did I have a 'smart' phone. People born at the bottom end of this range grew up with technology I never even dreamed of when I was their age. Society changed a lot from when I was in school to when the younger grouping did.

Generations are supposed to gather around similar societal structures, but the last few generations (millennial and Gen Z) do not really 'connect' as well as people of other generations did. (IE, baby boomers at the early and late range still had similar life experiences and beliefs and values).

They were popular when I was in early elementary school.

Is it just me or does the cutoff date for millennials seem to keep getting pushed further and further back? I see people including 40-year olds in it now.

I feel like that fact that there's no defined ages means generations are bullshit.

Most of the previous generational cohorts made sense... the last few have nothing really in common it seems.

The cutoff is arbitrary tbh. At the far ends you bleed into gen x or gen z, honestly no point in pointing at a cutoff age. Just people who have experienced the same culture with each other as youth around the new millennium. Saying "Oh its 91 not 93" or whatever is just dick swinging.
