I think one of the things that makes me feel bad about it the most is not so much that these particular guys won't be working together any more, and it's not so much that I don't have a 3PM and 9PM scheduled thing to do.

For me, I feel that the SBF represented a kind of idea of something great, or maybe it was more of an "ideal". Something that's not in my own life: one or two friends that I could sit down and talk to about video games for hours. Exchange ideas. Talk about experiences, how the games made me feel, how I made my way through them. Enjoying interesting parts of the games with people to process with, rather than just having feelings about games and just having them float out to the ether with no one to respond to them or challenge me on them.

Frankly, it's one of the reasons I stay on CE at all: I just can't talk about games the same with people I know in real life.

Watching and listening to the SBF, I could at least get that vicariously. I could get a contact high off their own elation and frustration.

And then to be reminded of reality. That relationships sour. That money gets in the way, that ideas and goals clash and can cause friction. It darkens the whole concept for me, and I wish I had someone I could truly process this with.

Maybe I'll put out the word at MAGFest for a SBF support group, because I know there are fans that go there. Maybe we can all get together and have a good cry about it. :)

I really feel that 2015 was kind of a banner year for them. It's even referred to on the fan wiki as the "golden age".

It had Super Mario RPG. It had Silent Hill 2. It had Bloodborne. RE Rev2. MKX. Ride to Hell. Star Fox Adventures. Undertale.

Oddly, it had no David Cage games.

The idea I'm getting is that Matt and Liam may have felt that Pat was taking the channel too seriously, which made it less fun to work on. They decided to put more time and effort into their side gigs, which led to Matt encouraging Liam to go off and do his own thing, shortly before taking a break from the channel himself. Matt came back for the sake of the channel, but still wasn't really enjoying it and continued to do his own thing on the side.

Pat gets upset because Matt isn't contributing much to the channel anymore, despite having majority share in the business. Meanwhile, Woolie is trying to hold the channel together by putting out separate content with the two of them, but eventually it gave out.

Now, it seems like Woolie is still friends with everybody else. Matt is still friends with Liam. And Pat is only close with Woolie now.

It seems like Two Best Friends will sort of still live on with Woolie and Pat, while Matt and Liam will probably do their own thing for a while, with the potential for an occasional collaboration, though I wouldn't be surprised if Woolie makes an occasional appearance on either of their channels.

My big hope is that maybe after all doing their own thing for a while, they'll all do a one-time special/reunion thing without the pressure of all of them needing to work together on a regular basis. I imagine Liam and Matt would feel much better if it was just a one-time collaboration project as opposed to running an entire channel together with scheduled content.

I was never involved with the fanbase and frankly they could be quite shit at times, especially during the Souls series, but I hope it doesn't devolve into a shitshow that tries to pin the blame on one of the guys. Just keep everything drama free and don't fall into the crap that was the game grumps fanbase after Jon left.

It's sadly inevitable (and thankfully the "evidence" is quite frankly Stretch Armstrong levels of reach), but at the very least the way they went about it means it'll reduce the amount of conspiracy crafting to a minimum.

I guess my favorite video from them was Pat and Woolie just rubbing their dicks to Front Mission 3 for literally 90+ minutes and that made me so hyped to try that game.

It's not just games that they got me into; I started watching WWE partially because they talked about it (admittedly, this was also partially because one of my friends was really into it). Watching RAW tonight, specifically the promos showing people pointing to the Wrestlemania sign, is bittersweet.

It's actually to the point where I see a lot of things and it makes me sad because of how it relates back the Best Friends. I've been a fan of Kingdom Hearts since I was a little kid, but watching the new trailer today just made me think about how excited I was for Matt and Woolie's LP of the first game (and how it ended in an extremely frustrating and unfulfilling way).

Hell the Yakuza series may not have reached Western shores after Dead Souls if not for them.

I put their Yakuza 4 LP on hold after Akiyama's part ended because of that Saejima cutscene at the beginning of his part. I needed to play the game myself after that. And that's just one of several games I probably wouldn't have heard of or given a chance if I hadn't seen them play it.

They cancelled the Smash FNF at almost the last minute (saying it was due to urgent matters). Kinda seems like something big happened then.

The real answer is they knew the panty fighter replacing Smash Ultimate was the best way for the Zaibatsu to go out.
