So it seems like Pat is the person who is driving people away.

I was a bit behind on videos, but I guess I don't have to catch up anymore.

It isn't great, but I sort of had an idea that this would happen. I remember it getting really awkward during a Fisticuffs when Pat called Matt out on pushing his "gully gully" thing, and Matt getting upset by it. Pat and Woolie were my preferred pairing these days anyways, so it's good to hear that the podcast will be continuing in some form with them. I believe Liam still isn't particularly fond of Pat either, so hopefully this isn't a sign that Woolie will end up leaving him too. There's more friendly ribbing between Pat and Woolie than any other pairing, so hopefully the new podcast lasts a while.

Eh, sounds to me more like they wanted to do different stuff. Conspiracy theories are always gonna pop up, but it is like when JonTron left Grumps. After all was said and done, seems like Jon wanted to move to New York with his GF and they had different ideas of what to do with the channel.

Yo, that's pretty fucked. Matt's wife's reaction is a bit over the top, IMO. Pat was just trying to make small talk from what I can tell.

That's one reason, but it doesn't have to be the only reason. Liam's not the kind of person to start the drama. If there were personal issues with Pat in the group, he would never say so. It took him 2 years to say publicly "we're not friends", so of course he wouldn't bring that up at the time he left.

Pat pretty openly said on his stream that he and Liam were work friends only and never hung out together outside of work even when Liam was still around and that they wouldnt be doing any side work together shortly after Liam left.

It seems pretty clear that Matt has been completely phoning everything in since he came back from his break, basically every lp hes in has been poison since then and hes probably skipped more podcasts than hes been in and even when hes there hes barely engaged in it. Seems pretty clear this is a Matt thing more than anything else especially since Pat and Woolie are continuing the weekly podcast together

At the end of the day, relationships are very organic things. They can stand up to time, erode away naturally, or just shatter all at once.

I'm going to recuse myself from any further speculation.

Woolie is generally decent as long as its not a Matt/Woolie LP, that combo has been pure poison no matter who is on controls since Matt came back from his break and hasnt given a shit about anything they are doing, when hes with Pat its a lot better. Im pretty happy that Pat/Woolie are going to keep the podcast going without the dead weight of Matt

Yeah. Relationships falling apart i generally a dual-sided sort of thing, but I feel like the driving force on this one has to be Matt. He just very obviously cares very little about what he's doing on SBF. On the podcasts he doesn't add much to any discussion, barely talks about video games and is really pithy towards Pat. In LPs he either acts uninterested or completely out of it; that first episode of Star Trek that they did recently made him seem like he was actually fucked up on something

I've heard of them years ago, but only really got into their stuff this year with the podcasts. Matt is my least favorite of the three, but I did enjoy them all together when they had a good subject to go over.

One can speculate all day, but the facts stand that as early as this Monday on the podcast they were planning for longer term stuff on the channel (prepping for new LPs, prepping new merchandise). On Friday, they abruptly announced that they weren't posting their Smash Ultimate video due to "urgent circumstances", and this morning, that video appeared.

"Something happened" seems an understatement.

Also, why did the previous member leave?

He cited his own mental health issues trying to keep to the schedule of regular uploading and the workload.

Liam left because of personal reasons that likely stemmed from the fans giving him shit all the time. I'm not sure if he ever expanded on it since then but wasn't happy so he decided to do his own streaming.

I hate to go all conspiracy-theorist here, but, yeah. Clearly, there was a lot of fatigue and disinterest coming from Matt since he came back from his break last year, but this was sudden. Something must have come to a head.

That said, I don't think I want to know what happened, and I don't want to see the fandom get whipped into a frenzied war over it. I used to like Game Grumps and all of that drama (among other things) ruined even rewatches of their videos I liked. I'd hate to see that happen to the SBFP; their work has gotten me through some really dark times.

Matt seems to be on the verge of tears in the video while Pat is stonefaced as hell, so I'm leaning towards assuming that it's Pat's doing.

I think that's just Pat being Pat. If anything Woolie looks the most distraught because he's still friends with both of them and is caught in the middle.

tl;dr: Pat is upset at Matt cuz he feels like Matt doesn't pull his own weight on channel enough, yet takes the biggest cut of profits cuz Matt was "the founder" of the channel. Meanwhile Matt always had a problem with Pat's attitude.

Meanwhile, Woolie was putting in a ton of work behind the scenes to keep everything together and was genuinely shocked and upset when he found out that Pat and Matt wanted to end it for good and stopped it from blowing up publicly for a few days so he could arrange a farewell video and mediate on who gets what parts of the channel. Pat got the podcast while Matt got the main channel.

The thing is, "Two Best Friends" was always supposed to be a misnomer. Matt and Pat weren't particularly close when they first started on Machinima (Pat was Matt's second pick for the pilot episode) and they only became friends after the fact. I think they were always both better friends with Woolie than with each other.

Didn't know things were that sour before all this, but I've always noticed on the podcast that they never talked about the same things besides new mainstream films. I thought it was always a difference between tastes, but I guess they got tired of each others' personalities after a while too.

Actually now that I think about it, this makes all of Matts "I deserve to take a vacation here and there" and "I work my ass off" comments on stream/twitter make more sense.
