I too just recently heard the bullshitstorm cropping up in the usual "gamz jurnalizm" cesspool over whether or not game reviews should be inherently political and anyone who disagrees is a giant over-privileged manbaby, or if the sort of people who feel the need to constantly force their personal politics onto entertainment are just suppurating assholes who need to shut the fuck up.

False.

I think you can probably come up with a way to politicize just about anything, but not everything is inherently politicial.

For example, tell me how farting is inherently politicial?

he's referring to social interaction, i would assume. in this case, it would be political to think about when/where to fart. and when you would hide it versus being open about it.

Yep, when I fart... it definitely represents the border wall.

The parallels are uncanny...

I created it, it stinks, but then other people pay for it...

Thats just a matter of manners, which I would not consider inherently political, but can be politicized. Maybe we need to define what political means?

politics is about power, giving and taking it. if you'd fart around certain people, but choosing not to fart around others (say, your boss), you are giving certain power to them (in this case, additional levels of respect).

you might choose to fart loudly in front of your bros, but not your girlfriends father, or your pastor. that is giving them a higher status than your friends, if you are doing it out of respect.

the idea that everything is political means that all interactions have an undertone of giving and taking power to people, things, or ideas based on the choices that we make. it's a political choice to choose to eat cows and chickens but not dogs, for example. it gives a level of status to dogs that we don't give to certain other animals.

Mark Brown is a normally smart guy, but it sounds like he's drinking the Silicon Valley SJW koolaid.

Should an awesome game whose dev is a NAZI get unfairly downrated?

Should a shitty game whose dev is a team of intersectional intersexional league of nations get unfairly uprated?
