Board 8 > SND's Top 10 Moments of the 2018 Contest Season(Countdown)

I will be including any and all board activity(including the discord server) that I witnessed from the period of October 7th, 2018, when I first heard about the 2018 Character Battle, to the present. I missed the nomination period so I can't have any insight on that.

Number 10- Why We Keep Coming Back

On October 11th 2018, more than 2 months ago during the bracket-making period, there was a topic on the Board about Why we keep coming back.



To me the topic was a great way for everyone to share their reasons for being involved in these contests. The highlight was hearing DoomTheGyarados(Sir Chris, Board 8 User of the 2000s Decade) passionate love letter to the Gamefaqs contests, not just for this year, but for every one he had been a part of in the past.





The topic really put the contest into perspective and made the excitement for the upcoming matches even greater.

Number 9- Why does Link 'wine' everytime?




On December 7th 2018, Link battled Cloud in Winners Semis and was in the process of handing him a crushing loss. On that day, I voiced my frustration at Link wineing all the time. I didnt care about spelling I was that mad that Link had to win every time. It came out really funny and I still laugh seeing my topic on there.

Number 8- Match pictures for Round 1 revealed!

On October 18 2018 during match 1, Dante vs Cuphead, the match pictures FOR THE ENTIRE ROUND were revealed. At the time, we were not sure for how many rounds they were going to be used, but it was a surprise to many at some of the choices made.















Quiet's picture was particuarly galling... "even Ulti did better"

Number 7- Black_Turtle vs the world

On November 15th 2018, former Guru winner @BlAcK_TuRtLe faced off against anybody and everybody on both the Gamefaqs Contests Message Board and the Discord server. He truly gave no f****s. The Tifa/MMX match had just gone down and emotions were still running high from the aftermath on both sides of the match.



















They eventually ended up comparing bank accounts.

BTs fight against everyone on Board 8 was one of the funniest moments of the con season. Maybe it was bullying, maybe it wasn't. But it was for sure entertaining, that I cannot deny.

Number 6- SNDs meltdown

You knew this was coming. On November 16th 2018, in the aftermath of the Tifa/MMX match, SND felt the need to point out some of the back and forth between the users, particularly the insults levied at Black Turtle.



What followed was an iconic post where SND attacked everyone on the board, and tried to make change to decrease what he felt as bullying on the board. It was not received well, with many coming out of the woodworks to call out SNDs hypocrisy.

















The topic reached over 100 posts in under 2 hours. It was crazy. Like BT, I went up against anyone and everyone on the Board that day. The highlight was XIII calling SND the worst person in the world.





Something was biting at my soul that day, seeing not just BT but a bunch of people being bullied after the MMX/Tifa match. I'm really happy I had a chance to say my piece, and that's why this is so high on the countdown. Plus, I know from an outsider perspective that people love watching car crashes like this.

I never meant to get caught up in the storm like that, but it happened. I still really do believe that the toxic nature of the board is reprehensible at times, and that the close matches bring out the worst in people. After this topic, I was not sure I was going to come back to the Board.

I can laugh about it now, but man it was painful back then. I do think what I had to say on that day had merit, but maybe its just pointless to try to change internet culture. People dont like to be told what to do.

Number 5- Nanis23 vs SBAllen


On November 11th 2018, user @Nanis23 went on an epic rant against SBAllen.



Everything he said in the post was true, and it resonated with many on the Board who love the contest so much. The contest was really really underwhelming up to that point, and SBAllen deserved a lot of the blame for why.

The post cemented Nanis23 in my mind as one of the users of the contest.

Nanis23 is the hero we deserve, not the one we need.

Yea I think the reaction to Nanis' topic was mixed, some agreed some didn't. I know I backed him.

And on my topic, most were just mad. I do think, because of the emotion the topic stirred, it was one of the moments of the season though.

The problem is, most things were fixed, and people no longer remember it

Right, not being able to see points until then is really bad.

Another big one is that the match picture would dissappear after you voted. It made the match feel so much less epic.

No prob! You got the number 5 spot on my countdown thanks to your rant.

I agreed with everyone you said a month ago. It was wrong that Joker was robbed like that. Same match pictures for a DAMN month was ridiculous too, it's part of the reason people stopped caring.

Number 4- Samus vs Marios ending in losers.

On December 10th 2018, the ending of the Mario/Samus match in the Losers Bracket came down to the last update.













It was thrilling.

Number 3- ZenofThunder defends Metal Sonic:




On October 26th, 2018, @ZenOfThunder passionately defended Metal Sonic in his first round matchup against The Boss in Round 1. He posted one of the best analysis crew writeups Ive seen this season. His Metal Sonic gifs along with his post in the crew topic was one of the coolest moments of the year.



Deserving number 3 spot for the User of the Year, easily.

Number 2- Zelda/Squall and its aftermath

On November 13th 2018, Zelda stunned Squall in arguably still the most shocking result of the contest. What followed was complaints by many about how mad people were about Squall losing, particularly by so much.







Those freaking Z games still I have never played. Have no desire to do so. But the aftermath of that match was one of the funniest moments on Board 8 this season.
