Or any other place?

I'm kinda unsure how the music industry works. I can listen to any soundtrack I want, so... How are they making the money?

To support the artist.

To have a digital copy you can transfer.

Not having to rely on data when listening to an album.

192kbps compressed in AAC is the highest quality you'll get out of YouTube IIRC. Streaming services (Apple Music/Spotify) offer higher quality streaming in comparison if you want a better quality of sound, less of the sound gets cut out in compression- basically.

You can go down that rabbit hole even further though and make the argument that it is worth it to pay directly for each individual album, song, etc as sound quality also ticks up with traditional downloads when compared to streaming services.

so you don't have to listen to somebody's lame 20 second intro and have them tell you to like and subscribe all while the video is playing in 240p

I don't think I've ever encountered this.

immediate and offline access with higher quality sound.

listening on mobile for "free" off youtube means you can't minimize it and it chews through bandwidth since it's a video as well.

Tons of videos have just the song. Also is anyone familiar with ClipGrab?

Yeah, usually when I encounter music on YouTube it is actually provided by the record label and contains nothing but the actual music or a music video. The trend of crappy lyric videos died a long time ago, generally speaking.

I don't see it that often anymore.

That said, I am definitely the type that spends about 80% of my listening in paid streaming services, the remainder is probably split between physical/youtube/bandcamp.
