Seems pretty obvious they deserve the slot over Ohio State, but that's just me

Georgia played three fucking Div II teams

They lost to both of the highly ranked teams they played.

The only major wins they have are Florida and Kentucky

And Georgia still had the tougher schedule because of the SEC and all.

If I liked to bet money, I would bet its

Alabama
Clemson
Notre Dame
Oklahoma

in that order and it seems kinda obvious unless some committee fuckery happens. Oklahoma and OSU both have 1 loss. Oklahoma avenged their 3 point loss yesterday to a 9-4 Texas.

Meanwhile Ohio State lost by 29 points to a 6-6 Purdue team. Comparing losses and with both of them being conference champs, one is clearly worse. Same reason a non conference champ 2011 Alabama snuck in during the 2011 season because they had a 3-point loss to the undefeated #1 team, while Oklahoma State lost to a (at the time) 5-4 Iowa State team. That loss was bad enough to cause a rematch for the championship game. And I know Oklahoma State for some reason loves to use that basketball coach tragedy as an excuse for why their football team had a 17-7 lead at halftime and blew it because of sadness?????, meanwhile Bama had a tornado rip through the town prior to the season but didn't use it as an excuse and the committee didn't buy that pity party either

I think UGA is still one of the top 4 teams in the country from talent on the field, but the 20 point loss to LSU is probably what's gonna kill that playoff dream. So they have 1 more loss than OSU or Oklahoma who played the same number of games and aren't conference champs like them. If it weren't for that LSU game I could see them getting in, but as it currently stands I think they're just boned. 2011 Bama situation isn't comparable to this, and neither is non conference champ 2017 Alabama (OSU would have bumped them if they hadn't lost by 31 to then 5-3 Iowa) or, before we all conveniently forget as if Bama is behind some conspiracy, non conference champ 2016 Ohio State.

But who knows what will happen.

ESPNs predictions at the bottom overwhelmingly go with Oklahoma.

Ohio State's loss to Purdue was just so, so bad.

Unfortunately for Oklahoma, their reward is playing Alabama in the semifinals.

Although, as ridiculous as it is to believe, Oklahoma actually won the previous matchup with Alabama a few years ago.

I think Bama fares much better this time. Oklahoma has an incredible offense but a hilariously bad defense

So that game will probably be a shootout and if Bama's OC doesn't get too cute, all they have to do to control the clock late in the game is just run. Hell, running worked against Oklahoma during their last matchup with Bama because Derrick Henry tore it up (12.5 YPC) late in the game, unfortunately Lane Kiffin liked to sniff his own farts at times and made things more complicated than it needed to be. Literally just use the same strategy that worked in the 2012 SEC championship game where Bama ran it down UGA's throats during the second half (and then won with a bomb to Cooper but the running game led up to that)

OU will get it obviously. Although given that there are 4 undefeateds and 4 playoff spots, the fact that there is even a discussion is ludicrous, let alone what the inevitable outcome will be.

Yeah except one of them literally hasn't played a single ranked team.

I'd take a two loss SEC team over that any day

UCF has weekly pillow fights

Their hardest opponent, by far, was Cincinnati. Cincinnati.

Rankings are subjective wins aren't. If you favor subjective rankings over football games lets put Georgia in.

Sucks for G5 where they're pretty much always gonna be left out of the playoffs (unless P5 teams royally shit the bed for a season like in 2007) because of a weak schedule and no P5 team bending over backwards to schedule them when they demand it. Anyway it's not like scheduling happens instantly, it takes at least a few years to set up, like how we regularly get news of nonconference matchups 8-10 years in advance where the future players on those teams are literally K-5 students right now

UCF was 0-12 three seasons ago and they shouldn't be surprised that no P5 team is gonna immediately plop them on their schedule because of 2 years of success so that they can prove a point to the cfb world

For that reason, Ohio State should get the 4th spot.

That's the problem with the current system. UCF is doing everything in their power to bolster their resume by winning the games that they were able to schedule, and in the end, it doesn't even matter. Going forward, no major P5 team will be willing to risk their own playoff chances to schedule them. Being 'promoted' from a G5 conference to a P5 conference is very difficult. So besides pushing for the playoff to be expanded to 8 teams, there's nothing else that UCF can possibly do.

A team being that good but also being that helpless to control their own destiny... it's a damn shame. It really is.

They just beat Michigan by 23

If Ohio State plays at their best they can beat Alabama. Alabama isn't going to lose to a Big12 team.

Purdue wasn't ranked for the entire season you can't get blown out by a team like that and make the playoffs
