The way I heard it, the Americans just beat the Germans to it.

By the time the bomb was finished being developed Germany was already overrun by the Soviets and Hitler was dead.

Germany never had a feasible chance of developing a nuclear bomb. They drove most of their top scientists out of the country and then drafted the rest of them into the army.

Germany never had a feasible chance of developing a nuclear bomb. They drove most of their top scientists out of the country and then drafted the rest of them into the army.

Hitler expected to win the war in a short period of time.
Developing a nuke was something that was expected to take years to develop, and Hitler expected the war to be over long before that, so it was wasted resources in Hitlers eyes. So he used those resources to develop more short term super weapons instead.
