Working 80 hours a week is a great way to make sure your boss becomes known for changing the world.

And I'm not trying to imply that this isn't true. If you want to change the world, working (in general) 40 hours a week isn't going to cut it. But if you want to be well known for something, working 80 hours for someone else typically isn't going to get you there.

Who can devote 80 hours a week to change the world?

More like you'll give you're company more money to change the world in their favor and not yours or what's best for others.

He's saying that if you want to change the world, spending 80 hours a week is the price you pay in order to be able to do the amount of stuff required to get that far ahead.

Yes, we know what he says to attempt to justify overworking people at his company.

Anyone working at one of Elon Musk's companies could find a great job pretty much anywhere whenever they want. The majority work a lot because they want to, as it is fascinating and stimulating stuff you won't find anywhere else.

SpaceX and Tesla are both revolutionizing their respective industries.

Really, because that doesn't quite square with what his workers are actually reported as saying

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/jun/13/tesla-workers-pay-price-elon-musk-failed-promises

A handful of disgruntled bad apples != what Tesla employees are saying more broadly. Honest individuals know that Tesla is a target for many reasons, most of which are related to how they're disrupting transportation and the oil industry. People who work at Tesla don't have to work there. Having that experience under your belt is enough to open up doors anywhere.

Oh and surprise surprise. "Ortiz, an outspoken supporter of a unionization drive at the factory,". Like I'm going to take seriously the cherrypickings of some union would-be tyrant who just wants to shut down Tesla. lmfao get outta here.

Tesla has 45,000 employees working to innovate in what is a dangerous assembly line. Injuries will happen no matter what, and they're working on making it safer.

Even with their controversy around injuries, it's still not accurate to say "all these people passing out and getting injured" as if there's some widespread issue with that there. There isn't. They can certainly do better but let's not deny that you're really exaggerating the problem because you have a bone to pick with Tesla and capitalism more broadly.

Cherry-picked complaints published to try to tank Tesla more than to give a shit about the actual injuries are not evidence, bruh. It's obvious where Godnorgosh's real intentions lie if you've paid any attention to his broader worldview and aspirations.

Tesla has repeatedly acknowledged that it wants to reduce injuries and has made motions to make things safer via automation, safer practices, etc. They're a car start-up that has grown rapidly to 45,000 employees working on uncharted territory. They're learning and doing better each week and the rate of injury is definitely not widespread how Godnorgosh is implying.

How are so many people having such a hard time reading and comprehending what he fucking said? It's literally a platitude that has been repeated and expanded upon by literally every successful person in history.

If you want more than the bare minimum, you need to invest more time into getting things done. If you want to literally change the world, investing time into building systems and organizations that help you change something requires working as much as you possibly can. Otherwise you'll never see your dream realized.

He's not saying to go and work that much. He's saying that if you have any aspirations of actually effecting change in the world, there is almost a hard requirement that you invest everything you've got into doing it. Which makes perfect sense.
