Tomorrows Bad Seeds

They were the front band to an Expendables concert I saw, and I really liked them. Very good reggae rock group...that I think is fairly unknown, at least today.

I like a group called Helicopter Helicopter.
As far as I know, their only "mainstream" exposure was that they had a song used in the first episode of Clone High and that's it.

Then they changed their name to something else and now they're, somehow, even lesser known...

Probably Red Sparowes? But they probably arent too obscure because they had members of Isis (the band...) in their lineup.

Probably HEALTH

Didn't they compose the soundtrack to Max Payne 3?

They did which is crazy. They're still relatively obscure but R* trusted them to do a whole soundtrack. Even crazier, I feel like they nailed it too. I haven't played max payne 3 yet but I've listened to the soundtrack alot

I'm not too big on the remixes of their songs, but that Purity Ring one is pretty good

Yeah, that soundtrack was fantastic. You should play the game, though. Its a great game, and there is a lot of stuff in there that is not on the OST release.

HEALTH also had at least one track in GTAV.

In terms of music I actually like, probably Cytotoxin.

There are two metal bands called Cytotoxin, one which has three albums out, and one which has one demo released in 2010 before calling it quits. I'm talking about the latter.

The One Hundreds. They're more or less a garage band in my area, which are actually really good but they still do only physical distribution and live gigs so no youtube links or anything (sorry). They did land a spot on the radio once though.

I guess other than that, either Starsailor or Showtaro Morikubo. I learned of them from MGS3 and Mega Man X6, respectively.

Recently started listening to Xiu Xiu and to John Dwyer's work under Damaged Bug.

There was this band called Kiss Kiss I found through a bonus disc of a MCR album that I thought was pretty cool. Some electric violin-heavy alt-rock. They only made 2 albums and broke up in like 2010. I wish they were on Spotify.

Chris Rubeo.

He did the music for several episodes of the Outs, which was a webseries that got a lot of critical attention from a lot of culture blogs back in like 2011, and which I still think is better than most of the sitcom drama that was finding it's way on to TV. But enough about that. Music.

He's probably most known for his cover of Broken Social Scene's Lover Spit.

He sounds kind of like Andrew Bird, which I love. Everything he does sounds so warm. He's still active, but he's never left the local scene around Massachusetts, and I live in Oklahoma.

Also my mom met KMFDM in the early 90s when they where recording here in Chicago.

Came in to post this woah

KMFDM isnt obscure lol. they were all over the place in the 90s. movies, soundtracks, etc.

tbf a lot of people nowadays don't know who KMFDM are and that might be the most obscure band those two users specifically know.

Verbena - into the pink.
The American alternative band from down south, not the Mexican band or the American metal band.

Saw the video for "baby got shot" on fuse about 20 yrs ago. Been a fan of AA Bondy (The lead singer) ever since then.

The Giraffes (from new york).
They are another band I found while going to a Local H concert 15 yrs ago. They are heavy, loud and brash as fuck. Plus 1 guy in the band has turrets which makes for fun live shows.

Picture me broken. Don't really keep up with them anymore but still have their music on my PSP. I went to a Manson concert (was goth in highschool so I jumped at the chance to see my idol from my teen days) and was blown away by their energy. I went to see Manson but they outperformed him all around. Manson was still good but his age and lifestyle has taken its toll I suppose. He just didn't have the same oomph I saw out of him in videos of concerts in his younger days.

I wouldn't call them obscure but it's true you never hear them on the radio or whatever anymore.

They came to town a few years ago right around my birthday, and I was so pumped to go see them... until it turned out even the nosebleed section tickets were selling for $200. I couldn't believe it. It was like, why don't I ever see these SD fans IRL? Then, oddly enough, as I was telling people about it, turns out everyone likes SD. Almost like Billy Joel or something.

I don't think I listen to any obscure bands. Doing a quick look through my library the most obscure ones I have are Patent Pending and Mest and I highly doubt either of them count

For awhile my friend was into trying to get into all this type of weird music and the one I remember most was Dog Fashion Disco (which looks like its been mentioned here). I was not a fan. At all. I think he called it "circus core" or something insane like that

I suppose the age of the bands matters a bit as well. A soundcloud band from the past 5 years with less than 10K views on youtube isn't the same as a band with multiple retail releases from the 1980s having about the same. I mean it's pretty amazing that recordings of such unpopular groups even survive that time.

Lot of that probably comes from underground tape trading networks, not to mention how easy it was to record on tape. Plus a cassette tape, unless you do something stupid like lay it on top of a magnet, can last about 50 years.
