I wouldn't mind a 10TB as an internal for my PS4. Don't see much need for it as an external or on my PC, though.

Why do people prefer internal HDs instead of external for their consoles? Might be a dumb question.

How much would a 10TB internal hard drive for PCs run? If they're even sold in that variant?

Can consoles even use external? I know certain....modded ones can but thats a different situation.

Im in the market for a new drive but 10TB seems like more than I need to justify that prices. Plus I have an old WD HD that is starting to go on me so Im concerned about longevity.

Xbox One definitely can, and I recall hearing that so can PS4.

PS3 can play media off externals as long as they're FAT32 or exFAT (not NTFS), but I don't think it can store games. XB360 doesn't support them at all (well, aside from flash drives up to 16GB or so).

PS3 and PS4 officially allow you to use any generic internal drive (as long as it's 2.5"), so it just makes more sense to me to do that instead of having to plug in an external all the time. Whereas XB360 (aside from via modding) is limited to official ones only, and XB1 doesn't officially allow changing them at all.

Xbox One can from launch and I believe the PS4 was updated maybe a year or two ago to support externals. I have a seagate external for my Xbox One that's pretty awesome. I need to get something for my PS4 but I dont want to break the bank and dont want to open the console up either.

You don't have to open the console up as such; it's got a dedicated hard drive bay that's easily accessible. Replacing the hard drive doesn't void your warranty either.

Hmmm, with regard to the PS4 does it act as a typical external drive? Will I have to wipe the console and start over or does it still use the internal as normal but allow me to download games to the external?

How do I transfer the data from the original internal onto the new one? This shit is 100% foreign to me btw.

PS4 and Xbox One both support external drives but they have to be formatted specifically for that console so it's only usable on PS4s or only usable on Xbox Ones.

You'll need to use an external temporarily, which the size of will need to be equal at least to the used space (not necesserially total space) on your current internal. Do a system backup on to it, put the new hard drive in, restore from backup.

If you don't have that, you'll have to settle for backing up your saves (either to a USB flash drive - any decent sized one should be enough for save files alone - or to the PS+ Cloud storage), and reinstalling your games once you put the new drive in.

I don't know why you would need 10TB for a console. At least not for another 2 or 3 generations with file sizes skyrocketing as they are. If this were an internal I'd consider it for my desktop since I might actually need that kind of space... in like 20 years.

The biggest games of this gen are around 100GB. 10TB might be a bit overkill, but we're very quickly getting to the point where 1TB isn't enough anymore. And if Sony continue with their future consoles what they did with the PS3 and PS4, you can always just move your 10TB hard drive to your PS5, PS6, etc.

WD vs Seagate is like Playstation vs Xbox. Except without the element of exclusives.

That's a damn good deal. I wonder if these have the Red NAS drives in them if shucked.

The 8tb had WD Red NAS drives in them and it was much cheaper than buying the internal drive on it's own.

Kinda wishing I had waited on my 4TB EasyStore purchase a few months back. I coulda survived without it.

I mean - it'll take me forever to fill the 4TB, but 10TB would effectively be futureproofing.
