seems like there are tons of people without college educations or practical/lucrative degrees who just seem to dick around for a few years before eventually somehow finding themselves in one

experience + job hopping + lying = cash

You get maybe at most a 10% increase yearly without a promotion. Usually on the lower end of 1-5%

Job hopping typically brings in at least 20% or more.

And a lot of jobs outside of menial jobs and STEM are just how to socialize and look busy

Depends on where you live. Median income around here is like $28k. If youre making $50k you're very well off and in the minority.

With that said, I fit your description pretty well. I have a Communications degree and I manage a data/imaging department at a photography studio. Nothing in my previous work/education history qualifies me for this type of work. I just came in here and had a natural talent for this type of position so they promoted me pretty quickly. My degree was training for how to learn, not so much the specifics of what I was learning.

did you just walk in randomly looking for a job?

or did/do you know somebody there already?

and do you mind me asking how much you make?

I look at credit applications and it seems like everybody is pulling over 60k. Even the McDonalds workers lol.
