Cap was clearly the hero. Anyone wanting gov't to regulate heroes doesn't know the gov't well.

And on topic, because it was all about Cap and Bucky. Plus no Thor or Hulk.

Because Cap was clearly in the right in this conflict, and they went out of their way to show it. And the movie was more about him and Bucky than anything else.

How is Captain America the villain of the film when the government of the MCU was infiltrated by Hydra and also tried to drop a nuke on a large metropolitan city killing millions?

1. Because the main plot centers around Captain America, and continues off from Winter Soldier
2. Because Civil War comic storyline itself is most associated with Captain America
3. The fact that "Civil War" in America is associated as an "American" thing.

Cap was clearly the center of the plot. The movie focused on his perspective pretty much the whole time and kept nailing in the point that Cap is right!!!!! every two seconds. Thats why the people that have changes of opinions switch to his side and nobody goes from team Cap to team Tony. Then in the end, Cap wins, Tony acts like an ass (you dont deserve the shield!), but Cap shows that hes still a good friend (by leaving him the phone and breaking his friends out).

The whole movie can be basically summed up as Captain America is a sweet man, and a good friend, right?

What kills me is that people end up saying "Well, he was in the right, he killed his parents."

Nooooooo, Tony should have been the better man, the hero, and been better than that. You don't get to act like Tony was in the right, when he is told "he was under mind control" and he goes "I don't care, I'm going to murder him."

That doesn't make a hero. It makes a better character, and it will probably lead to a better 2nd story arc for Tony, but he's definitely *not* the hero of Civil War.

In turn it makes Tonys reaction to Star Lord in Infinity War even better, now that I think about it. Keep it cool we almost got this off! Tony knew how Peter Quill felt at the moment and how it could affect the team and mission based on how he reacted to the news of his own parents a while back.

I don't think either of them were heroes. I do think that Cap was an arrogant wanker throughout though.

The fact that the "Cap/Tony is the hero/villain" debate is even a thing shows how both have valid points and are somewhat nuanced.
Compare that to the comic where Tony ends up using a cloned Thor to kill one of their friends, building a prison in another dimension to lock up hero and villain alike without trial, pressures Spidey into making his secret identity public,...

Yeah, the nerve. I thought Captain America was supposed to be a one man stand-up comedy routine.

Lol no. He wasnt in the right. He broke up the Avengers all because some dead girl he wanted to boink said you should stand your ground. That certainly doesn't outweigh what happened in Avengers 4 and they could've had a much better response if Cap didn't fuck up.

I mean, Tony broke up the Avengers because his incessant need to control everything nearly destroyed the world in the 2nd Avengers movie, and his response was "We need to be able to be in control of everything now even more"

At least its better than the comics, where Tony Becomes Space-Hitler and opens up interdimensional space gulags and Cap just acts like an incessant child the entire time, and really only ends when the non-super people tell them to ****ing grow up a bit.
