They are "blister" peanuts, boiled then roasted, which gives them a super-sized crunch. I always deliberately pronounce pecan as "pee-can". You will never find cashews sold in the shell. That's because the shell contains urushiol, the same chemical irritant found in poison ivy! Blue Diamond Smokehouse almonds are my favorite nut. And I also love marzipan, which is a candy made from ground almonds and sugar. I had someone give me an entire bag of macadamia nuts in the shell. Now I know why they're so expensive, the shell is practically made of iron. I literally had to use a vice to crack them, and half the time the shells exploded throwing shrapnel all over the garage! After about 2 hours I had less than a cup worth of nuts! I love pine nuts, but they're so freaking expensive! What do you do with pine nuts? Melt some butter, toss in the nuts and some minced garlic and saute until light brown, then toss with some cooked pasta and fresh grated Parmesan cheese. Walnuts are one of the healthiest of all nuts, loaded with antioxidants, Omega-3s, protein, fiber, magnesium, potassium, and vitamin B-6, and they may reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. Never confuse chestnuts with horse chestnuts, chestnut horses, or chestnuts on horses. I don't really care much for hazelnuts, or filberts as they're sometimes called.
