Got a cold 2 times this fucking month already.
Got one first week of October lasted 1 week and then it was over. Then on the weekend got a brand new one starting all over again!

What in the actual fuck and I need to work and do shit having sore throat, headache, runny nose etc. is really bad for my job.

So I was thinking of going to get a flu shot to say fuck you to these random ass colds that I got back to back.

2 people I knew got flu shots to avoid the flu. They ended up getting sick right after for 5 days (the length of your standard flu)

I don't know that many people.

they work. they don't work all the time though. they aren't perfect. they also don't have anything to do with colds so you could still get those

If you have insurance it should be free so why not get one?

I've get them every year and have only gotten the flu once. If you think you do have the flu, go to the doctor asap and get tamiflu. That stuff beats the shit out of the flu so fast.

Yes, sometimes. There are many different variants of the influenza virus as it mutates rapidly, so every year the CDC and other organizations try to predict which strands will be the most widespread or significant and creates a cocktail vaccination to cover them in an attempt to prevent their spread as much as possible. If you get a flu shot, it will protect you (and more importantly everybody else) from those strands, but it's not a guarantee that you won't catch a different variant of the flu.

For something that's usually free and takes very little time, it's absolutely worth it.

if it was within a few days you already caught the virus as your body can take up to 2 weeks to build up resistance to the dead viruses in the shot.

short answer: as other people said it works

longer answer: it's not perfect process, and influenza is a specific virus. there are other ways to get sick that are not the flu. Additionally, I think most people would prefer to be sick 5 days or so with a common sinus infection or other issue than have the actual flu which sucks a lot more.

The shot will reduce your chances of getting a flu that doesn't mean you won't get it. And yeah not having the shot doesn't mean you will get the flu. It's about reducing the risk.

The flu shot is going to do nothing to reduce cold frequencies or severities. With those expectations, youd be setting yourself up for failure.

There are many many viruses prevalent during flu season (which honestly is just colder temperatures seasons) ranging from corona viruses, rhino viruses, RSV, parainfluenza, enteroviruses, etc. Flu shot is specifically for influenza which is not a cold, its influenza. Its still a good idea to get your flu shot because the actual flu will knock you on your ass and in some cases can be lethal. Unfortunately many people assume their typical winter colds are caused by influzena which is usually not the case. Flu shot may prevent or decrease severity of symptoms in the event you actually come into contact with actual influenza
