Lol Im just messing. Yes it is an amazing show.

What I love about the show is that it never keeps the status quo. Everytime you think you know where the plot is heading they throw a huge twist that changes the direction of the season.

After the Season 1 twist, Season 2 just keeps upping the zanyness to another level. I legitimately cannot guess where any particular episode will end up because the creativity of the writers is undending. The cast chemistry is also spot on.

I still need to catch the Season 3 premiere on Hulu.

One of my top 5 favorite shows.

Yeah, he has some really, really good character development. To be fair, though, that's part of the twist. He's actually a malicious demon, using a 'goofy old man' guise to trick them.

Yeah it seems a bit overkill like if anything Tahani should have been in the Medium Place? Like sure she had a malicious reason for everything but...she did raise a fuckton of money so I don't get why Mindy would get to be in the Medium Place but not her.

As for Chidi I think it's established that he just negatively impacted everyone in his life because of who he was as a person?

To be fair;

Tahani not only was stuck up, but literally everything she did was because of her own vanity. Any good she did was cancelled out because she was doing it for the wrong reasons. Outside of her good actions, she also did some malicious stuff towards her family, though that is more morally grey than anything.

As for Chidi, he wasn't just indecisive, but he was actually actively malicious because he was concerned about his own ethics. In Season 2 they demonstrate this when he is unwilling to compromise his own code even though that would mean that three other innocent people would literally be tortured for eternity. He's basically a philosophical zealot fundamentalist, even though he's nice about it.

I think the reason is because Mindy had a genuine epiphany and was going to do good for legitimate reasons, but she was killed before she could put those plans into action. Her sister started the charity in her name based on her plans. So the Good and Bad Places argued whether she should get credit.

As for Chidi I think it's established that he just negatively impacted everyone in his life because of who he was as a person?

The deciding difference between Tahani and Mindy is that when Mindy had her epiphany right before she died, she was genuinely planning on doing it solely for good, not for any other reasons. Tahani solely did her charity work to try and compete against her sister. They established pretty well in season 1 that if your motives are even the least bit selfish/corrupt, you don't get any points for the action, regardless of how much good it does.

Chidi is the inverse of that, since Chidi always had good intentions, but his lack of action did harm to the people around him, making those intentions worthless without good action to back them up.

The show's interpretation of morality works under the idea that it takes both good intentions and good actions combined to earn yourself a spot in The Good Place. One or the other other doesn't cut it. The reason Mindy got the Medium Place was because, despite being shitty before, her ephiphany caused her to not only change her intentions and want to help people, but she also did the actions needed to plan it, organize it, and used all of her own personal savings to finance it, but she died before the project was actually realized. The reason she got stuck in the Medium Place was because they weren't certain if she should get the points or not, because although she did die before her plan could go into effect, she did have both the good intentions as well as already having started performing the good action as well.

In the case of Mindy, it's also important to note;

It wasn't a clear cut case of 'we'll just send her to The Medium Place", it was a special case where both sides were arguing, and The Medium Place was literally created for her. She is the only one there, so this sort of honest, death bed conversion must be incredibly rare, or at least, the math that her epiphany cancelled out her bad deeds must have been nearly impossible.

k I just thought of something and I don't know why I didn't think about it during any of Chidi's flashbacks to when he was alive.

During the first (I think, maybe second) episode Chidi tells Eleanor that he's actually speaking French and she's just hearing it translated in English (the obvious implication being that he's hearing everything in French).

But obviously from his time in Austalia he knows English quite well (as seen in the flashbacks)...and in his lectures and when Eleanor walks into his office at the university he speaks perfect English.

So like...why would he default to French? >_>

Yeah, this is what I just assumed.

Even though he's fluent in English, he probably still prefers the language he grew up learning/speaking, so that's what the after life would default him to.

The one thing that could be a slight plothole along these lines though, major spoilers for the entire show below (minus season 3, haven't seen it at all yet):
Don't they say that the auto-translation thing is part of The Good Place "mainframe" kinda thing? Once they try to escape through the bad place to try and get to the judge, wouldn't that no longer apply to them?

I suppose you could argue that since Janet's part of the afterlife "mainframe" she can still do the auto-translation, but there's a good little bit where she and Micheal are separated from them, so there would be nothing to translate Chidi into English/everyone else into French. Unless he just automatically switched back to English the second he realized he wasn't being translated anymore.

Although, even with all that said, you still do have a point that Eleanor made a specific point that Chidi spoke great English, and he responded with him actually speaking French, but that'd still be kinda a weird response considering he actually IS able to speak really fluent English.

They sort of touch on resolving that in the Season 3 premier. They have him switch between speaking perfect English, then French then back to English, and he explains to Eleanor that he's a native French speaker. So yeah, he probably just instantly switched to English as soon as they left the fake Good Place.

EDIT: Well, yeah, you saw it now. Damn, I am a slow-ass typist.

Funny, cause I thought the same thing when watching the Season 2 finale. As they keep digging deeper and deeper into the hole, I'm thinking they can't possibly create a whole other season after this! They're literally seeing a judge after maneuvering through the Bad Place. What more could they possibly do that hasn't already been covered in the last two seasons?

And then they surprise me once again. :/

Amazing how they keep coming up with new stuff.
